I have a Yammie rxv 571, that is getting passed on to my son, which I have been using. I hate ypao and the lack of ability to set the sub cxovers the way i want. I have a reccomendation on the Marantz sr5007, which is looking good to me. Anyone have other suggestions for a unit? I have had yamaha for 20 years, but they hit their peak about 10 yrs ago. My latest unit has poor sound quality unless in direct or straight, with no ypao eq. Looking for audyessy, 5.1 inputs for sacd, great sound with music and movies, which I am 50/50 on. Thanks!

I really like my Denon 1713. Don't buy on the net however. Find a dealer on the Denon web site call them, you will get a much better deal.

How is the quality, reliability of the onkyo.? Seems pretty hit or miss from what I have read. Have you had any issues?

Ok, thanks for the input. Looked at that one yesterday. Still thinking the Marantz may be worth the extra $. The net prices are pretty good on that unit, 449 I think.

I think Denon and Marantz are built by the same company and the "guts" are very similar. As dynaudio said, to get the best price on a Denon you must actually pick up a phone and call a dealer. Expo Electronics is highly recommended on the Denon forums. Check out the first few posts on the Amps & Receivers page on the Denon XX13 if you have not done so already to see if that is of any help to you.

I have two Denon AVRs, one of which is powering my Aperions, and am very happy with them.

Here's an interesting conversation about the differences between Denon and Marantz.

It gets predictably flamey, but for what's it's worth the people on the thread that did direct comparisons of comparable Denon and Marantz models reported that they heard a difference.

Here is my long overdue review of Aperion. Being that the concept of buying speakers online was completely foreign to me I was hesitant to get sucked in by all the glowing reviews I was seeing about the new Grand Verus line of speakers by some company I had never heard of. I had decided that now that I was in my 40's I would venture into buying quality speakers instead of the cheapest and loudest ones I could find. I kept looking around (finally discovered AVS Forum in the process) but kept running into more and more "professional" reviews of these speakers. I also started to see a lot of very positive posts here about them. Being that they were well above budget for me I resisted the urge for about six months until they were finally caught up on supply enough to meet demand. I decided to pull trigger on these when one reviewer said he had to pull his $10,000 reference speaker back into the room to be able to tell them apart. I ordered the GVT's and the GVC. I called and spoke to the gurus and found them to be helpful and knowledgeable even with a newbie like me asking stupid questions. It took about a week to get them cross country to me and when they arrived I hurriedly unpacked them and set them up with my new Yamaha RX-A3000. I was very impressed with the speakers but wasn't convinced that I would keep them. I finally had time to sit and tweak settings on the Yamaha and started listening to some of my favorite CD's and noticed that I was hearing notes in the background that I hadn't heard before. I ended up going to my local music store 5 or 6 times in the first weeks to get new music to listen too. Well I got to the 30 day mark and couldn't send them back, I had found new pleasures in my music, movies, and TV shows. I was using 2 Polk CC as my surrounds (previous system was 6.1) and was very happy. Along comes January and Aperion starts to run a special that with purchase of VGT and VGC you could get bookshelves or bi/dipoles for basically half price. Now I couldn't justify spending another $600.00 for a pair of bookshelves but at half that I wanted them. I finally decided to email Jason and see if there was any chance that I could get this deal even though I had bought my speakers in Nov. I even said I didn't expect them to be able to honor the price. Well I was pleased as all get out when Jason emails me back later that day and says they could do it for me as I was only a few days (more like 10) past my 30 day trial. I got them and now have complete VG setup. I am more than happy with these speakers. I usually forget they are there even though they are always on when watching TV. I ended up buying SACD player just to reach the full potential of the sounds coming out of them. I decided on these speakers because of reviews, return policy, and 10 yr. warranty. I kept them because they were as good as everyone else raved about and the outstanding customer service. I have had these for about 15 months now and can honestly say that I feel they were worth every penny that I went over budget and look forward to many more years of listening pleasure.

Sides and rears are ERD-1s powered by my receiver (Yamaha RX-A3000)
Sub is an SVS PC13 Ultra.

Let me know.

How do you like this set up?
I am on the line to decide between the the new SVS Ultra series or the same as you, VGT/VGC and 4 VGB to go with my 2 PB13 Ultra.

Thanks for the help! Settled on and got the Marantz sr5007. Could not be happier! It really brings my Aperions to life! Mancave never sounded better! Watching hockey on my 92" screen while playing an sacd! I am in heaven! Watched Avatar earlier and was totally blown away. This baby is amazing!

I do have one question, in the marantz sr5007 reciever, i set up all of the individual crossovers to match my speakers. What should i set my LPF in the AVR to? It defaults to 120, my highest is 100. I set it to 100, is that ok? Thx. Almost forgot, I have a bravus 2 8d sub.

Hello all

Any Aperion owner from Canada?

My question is about shipping cost.
Aperion tell me the shipping is free using FedEx but charge 14% to cover Canadian taxes and duties.

Any surprise at delivery time (i.e. broker fee)?
Because for me it might be a deal breaker on the Grand Verus line of speakers and got bad previous experience from FedEx for broker fee.
$4200 for the VGT, VGC and 4 VGB is a good price, add 14% or $588 and it hurt to know it will be going to the tax man, but I can live with it (Alberta tax is 5%, that would leave 9% for the broker)
but if you add another broker fee then the price is not so good.

Just don't want any bad surprise at delivery time and know in advance how much I should budget for.

Any reply would be welcome.

I live in canada and just like you, i was reluctant the first time i ordered from Aperion because i too had very bad experiences with Fed Ex and brokerage fees. Since then, i've ordered 3 times from Aperion and never had to pay any brokerage fee on top of the 14%.
In fact, each time everything went well, no bad surprise at all.

Go for it !

Yeah 100 Hz is a good setting for the LPF of LFE, although a lot of folks recommend 120 Hz so you don't miss out on any LFE content.

That's right, the 14% charge covers everything and the order just shows up at your door!

Great, thx. I settled on 120 after reading some audyssey posts and set the rest of my aperions at 80 for cxr. Sounds fantastic! Really happy with the whole set up. Thanks for the help!

Hey

I'm planning on getting a pair of the VGT to replace my aging Kef Q55.2 front speakers.

I currently have Monitor Audio Radius center and rear and am powering the set up (incl Kefs) with a Marantz SR5001 (90 wpc). I'm planning on upgrading my amp at some point to something like the Denon AVR-3313CI however I can't afford both at the moment.

I use my set up for around 60% tv and movies 40% music.

Would my current Marantz be able to handle the VGTs, or should I wait and save up for both before buying them?

Thanks

Hello there,

It looks like your KEFs are slightly lower in sensitivity at 91 dB while the Verus Grand Towers are 92 dB, so you should be good with the Marantz SR5001, at least temporarily. 90 watts/channel is on the low end of what I recommend to get the most out of the VGTs, so upgrading to something with a bit more power like the Denon 3313 down the road is probably a good idea.

I hope that helps!

If you're fine with your receiver's features and inputs you may consider buying a dedicated amp like a xpa-3 or something. That's what I'll be doing when I make my upgrades.

Hicks,
Question for you on the trade up program. I have the Intimus 4C, and two 4Ts (the older generation non-glossy). Are those still available for the upgrade program?

Thanks!
@Hicks thanks for the research and response.

@BentZero. I did think about that, but I really need to upgrade the pre-part as well. I often get HDCP handshake issues and the sound just goes and need to restart the amp. It's pretty annoying. I think it's only HDMI 1.1, so it's pretty old spec.

Just need to get the wife's buy in now. Shouldn't be too hard though as she hates the look of the old Kefs smile.gif

Thanks again.

If you bought them within one year ago then yes, you just have to pay shipping both ways. Also, you have to go up the line, subsequent revisions don't qualify. So while you could go from 4Ts/4C to 5Ts/5C you could not go to the gloss version of the 4Ts/4C. Feel free to give us a call so we can give you a quote for shipping, thanks!
