Troubles with Emprex HD-3201

Greeting all, directed here by a member of Pontiac forum I visit. My wife and I have the TV mentioned above and the other day it just suddenly up and quit. No sound, no picture. The blue light comes on when I press the power button but nothing happens. I can turn it back to stand by mode after about a minute.

Is there a fuse that might have blown?

A bad power supply?

A bad relay?

Emprex has been of no help what-so-ever since it is out of warranty now - by a week, mind you!

Is it worth getting fixed or did we pee $1000 down the drain?

I'm pretty good with electronics, so if it needs parts and they're obtainable, I can fix it, I just need to find what to look for.

Thanks!

The same thing happened to our Emprex HD-3201 today. The screen went blank while we were watching it and we can neither manually or remotely turn it back on. I have emailed Emprex in hopes of getting some support. Will let you know if I hear back from them.

Please let me know how it turns out! I still have a dead TV sitting here and haven't had a chance to fix it.

Hey Manic!

So I emailed Emprex and explained what happened and they stated that it might possibly be a defect and as long as it was under warranty i simply needed to send the TV to their warranty repair folks. Well I explained I was no longer under warranty and whether or not it was a problem. They instructed me to contact them anyhow and i did. The company handling their warranty repairs is called BTC located in Fremont, California. For out of warranty service, the service charge is applied to repair the product. The service charge usually includes the cost of parts and shipping fee. To start the process they send you a "Product Service Form" you must fill out and issue you a work order number. After that I needed to send them the TV in order to diagnose the problem and give me an estimate. Since we live less than an hour from Fremont, my husband drove it to the repair shop last Friday and I received an email on Tuesday (1/16) stating that they examined our TV and found that our TV's power board went bad. The service charge to replace the power board was $60 which i gave them authorization to charge my credit card and they promptly fixed. On Wednesday (1/17) I got another email from the repair company and asking me when I could pick up the TV.

I'm not sure where you live and how much it will cost you to ship your TV this way but it was pretty painless from my side on the handling of this repair. Here is the email address I initially sent my inquiry to Emprex Support and they sent me the Product Service Form and instructed me to fill it out and send it to BTC.

Since I am new to this forum I can't submit any urls or email addressess but the Emprex Support I emailed is tech_us at emprex (you can figure the end to that). Try to email emprex at this address explaining your situation and see if you can get that form if not, I can try to forward you a copy of the form I received from them.

Good Luck!

My Emprex HD3201 did the exact same thing exactly a week out of warranty. I couldn't even get a call back after several messages. I just gave up and bought a new Panasonic set. I think I will try to call the warranty number again to see if I can send mine in if they can fix it for 60 bucks.

Same thing happened to my Emprex HD3201.
Looks like we got a bad batch of power boards. Mine was made November of 2005 which looks like about the same time as Manics. I got the RMA form, etc. off the Emprex website, filled it out and got a repsonse back the next day (today).
It's out of warranty but the $60.00 price tag sounds OK. Shipping could be expensive, IN to CA...painful. Will let you know what I find out.

Same thing here. Power supply board has a rattle in it. It must be something inside one of the componets on the board. 5V standby comes up, but none of the mains switch on when PS-on signal comes from control board. Manufacture date June 2005.
Ordered replacement board from BTC.

Same thing. 10 months after i bought it (within warrenty period.) Had major issues reaching Emprex/BTC. No one answered for more than a week and all the voicemail mailboxes were full. They returned to me within 10 days or so and eventually sent me a replacement. I used the box to send my TV but had to pay shipping (around $60, Fedex ground being the cheapest.)

Hit by similar issue described by others. Black screen and no audio, but the standby light works. Tried to call BST in Freemont but their phone is now out of service... fax seems to be working??
Opened up the case and found the powerboard HTM2002405AHSAT.
A search on google showed some had sold a couple of months back on EBAY, but none available now. A china website show one listed, no price and I'm not going that route unless last choice.
Did send email to tech site at Emprex... no response yet.

So decided to troubleshoot the board... getting it free from the tv is not easy but would have to be done for replacement anyway should that be necessary. But for some reason (divine inspriation) I decided to drain the CAPs first (for safety??).... heard a click after doing one of the CAPs so decided to try the tv.... and she now was working fine??

So, back in operation..... it really isn't a bad display so I'm glad it's back in operation.

Looks like I'm not the only one that's had this problem! Phyberoptic, you said you drained the CAPs. What are CAPs, and how do you drain them?

Whatever help you provide would be appreciated.

Thanks! : )

I found this info from another site if anyone is interested to see if they can get another power board.

BTC RMA Department Tel: (510) 657-3956 opt. 4 for RMA FAX: (510) 657-0879 E-mail: RMA@btcusa.com

I think my TV is having the same problem described in the first post so I may just trying replacing the board since the TV is out of warranty.

I think it might be the power supply because I saw the vertical picture sync rolling a few days before the screen went Black and no audio now.

My TV is ca 2006 and the audio went out under the warranty. The Service shop in Fremont fixed the sound problem in 2 weeks time.

Now looks like the power supply went out. Looks like the cost is $60 for the power supply whether you bring it in to them for service or just order the part and install it yourself!

I bought my TV at a Fry's sale 3 years ago for approx $700.... thought it was a bargain at the time! With 2 failures already... it is not a bargin... I see 32 inch TV now selling for around $300!

For $60 I will fix it, but what next???

Anyone know what goes bad with this TV.... maybe a good design but cheap parts with poor quality control means lots of repairs and NO BARGAIN!!!

I had an Emprex 3201 that started having problems turning it on. I took it apart and didn't see any obvious problems. I measured the voltage coming off the power board and the 5v output was putting out about 3.3v and the 12v output was putting out 0v. I found the powerboard HTM2002405AHSAT on eBay for $50 and now the tv works great.
