no email sent on subscribed threads update

Thread Starter
I am subscribed to several threads and they are configured to receive daily email notifications. For the last 2 days or so, I have not received any emails even though these threads have been updated. I checked my email address in my profile and it is correct. I am receiving email from others at this address. Is there a problem/issue with thread subsciptions via email?

thanks

Hello...

I do see the last mail sent to you was on the 18th and it was accepted by your mail provider. I do not see anything looking to be sent after that from any of the 4 servers.

Looking in the logs I see that the dailies actually have not been sent out from the 18th. Pondering. I just forced it do send them. Lets see what happens.

Thank you for letting us know.

Hm.. just came here to ask whether notifications are sent from threads in the test forum, and now am wondering if there's a global issue or not?

I just turned notifications on so that I can get them on a PDA, and I've got them working from dbstalk and TC, but at AVS, not so good.

The test forum really does not have anything to send.

One of the issues I see we are running into is the time it takes to process the "daily subscriptions" and sometime it does not complete the job run.

We really do not offer FORUM subscription based on the sure number of posts made a day to a given section.

No, I made a new thread there, and replied to it last night. Nothing so far. Tons from TC and dbstalk. Isn't that reply to a new thread sufficient to get a notification? Sorry if I wasn't clear....

Edit: Er, and the other 5 threads I'm sub'd to that had new traffic since midnight haven't notified me, either.

Lee, first of you will not get notified if you yourself make a post to a thread. After all, you are you and you know you made the post.

As mentioned, we are having issues with the daily report. However the instant reports seem to be just fine.

Oh, crap. Didn't know that. Hard to test things yourself that way! In any case. *this* thread, which you've responded to, has not resulted in emails. And, I am configured for instant emails. (Er, let me go check. At this point, I don't trust anything....)

Yep, set to instant. Now what?

Hi Lee...

I got the notice sent to me just fine. So not sure what to tell you other than to check you spam filters. Looking in the mail log, the notice did go out to you and was accepted for delivery by your mail provider...

Note...stat=Sent means it is out of our hards as it left us without issue.

And here is the one for the above post...

(Note...server time is on central time. Made mention only so you do not mention the time stamp.)

David, you aren't going to believe this. (Well, maybe you are, since I think you've been around computers as long as I have... )

I decided to tear this apart, and looked at all the rules I had in Outlook (which sends them to the work address which forwards them to the PDA, don't ask...).

There was one for dbstalk and TC. Okay, AVS is f'ing up, no? Now, trusting your logs, as I always do (what choice do I have?! :-) ), I looked further.

In my Outlook deleted folder was a notification from this thread. Sigh. How did I miss it? Where did all the others go? No idea.

Okay, set up a rule to forward them, and now I have instant updates for all replies from all sites on my PDA.

Sorry to waste your time, appreciate the data, and I'm still confused.

Thanks for the reply. Most of the time when I have such a note come in, it is usually the mail provider not accepting the mail or something. Then you have the spam filters that can kill things as you have found.

All in all, glad you are ok at this point.

David-- I receive emails for maybe 1 out of every 10-15 posts to my Ticketmaker sticky thread in the Homer Theater Items & Accessories board. This has been going on for about 9-12 months... maybe longer.

I use yahoo mail... spam filters are not kicking the messages to my "bulk" folder... I monitor the contents of my spam folder regularly. Any ideas? Any evidence that yahoo has been kicking AVS messages back?

I just added the avs-forum-support@avsforum.com address to my address book. Not sure if that would help though.

We do not send out message for each and every post made to a thread. It is sent only once based on the last visit time to the site and the time the next post is made. If 10 posts are made before you return, you still will only get one message. When you return, you will then get another message that a post was made to a subscribed thread.

Hope this helps.

Note...I show two messages sent today when I just looked at the log...

Oh. That's unfortunate. I assumed they were happening whenever there was a new message, because I had peviously been posting so frequently in the thread.

Is there any automated means by which I can be made aware of new postings? No weekly journals??? So many of the posts are requests for assistance, but I was (erroneously) relying on emails to give me notice.

Also.... I'm guessing that my last visit was on or about 12/08. Is there a two-month timer that kicks off the new notice cycle?

Thanks for your help!

If we sent mail for each and every post made for people that are subscribed to threads, that would make for A LOT of mail. (and we already send A LOT) Thus we send a notice only on the first reply to a post from your last visit and in the notice it reads that their may also be other replies.

The system does do weekly, but it would not include all posts in all threads.

It is what it is, I guess you need to stop in more.
