Replacement HD DVD cases - Page 4

Does anyone else know where the Viva Elite cases (used by Warner, Paramount, Image) are sold? DVDInternational doesn't have them listed any longer. I looked at the Viva website and they only show Blu-ray products..

I need a bunch of these cases to replace damaged ones. I don't want to put these Warner/Paramount/Image/Weinstein discs in those Universal style..the inserts are smaller and well, they don't look right. I was also looking to pick up imports in the future and print up custom inserts (for those where the titles are reversed on the spines) and place them in these cases.

Crap!

There's cases but much cheaper ones. I believe they are similar to the ones BCI uses and those are pretty crappy IMO. I'd take the old Seastone cases over those.

The Universal ones with the clasps are the hardest to find. Scratch that. The Universal ones with the clasps with COMBO stamped at the top are the hardest to find.

For (older) Warner, Paramount, etc. style check out Square Deal recordings. They even sent me a free sampler CD of some artists of whom I never heard with my order.

Now, if you just want cheap, flimsy red cases that don't even have HD DVD stamped on them, check out your local Fry's Electronics.

I'm always confused with which cases people refer to. Someone should just identify the case, put up images of the different cases. Highlighting the hub, spine and various areas.

Replacing cases with existing artwork is not easy because they are different sizes for different cases. many times there are identical titles with different cases and artwork sizes. It's had to tell what is being sold. And very few people seem to know what the cases are called.

I second that, I am as confuse as the next guy...

I have a bunch of foreign hd's with the fat cases that I would like to exchange for the more slim and slick looking ones...

I was about to order them from DVD international but hesitated because of all this confusion....

I ordered 100 of these types, these are the ones I like because of the locking tabs for transporting. Then when I put it back on the shelf I just fold back the locking tab until it clicks in for easy disk access. These are the same ones Universal uses and I am replacing all of my other ones with these ones. I'm also thinking about using these for my DVD's but shrinking & printing the cover art will be just to costly for the personal PC. Even if I scan to shrink each one then take it Kinko's it's still going to be a grip and I don't know if the DVD's are worth the effort.

Description:
• Accomodates 1 HD-DVD Disc
• Full sleeve for HD-DVD artwork inserts - Up to 10 1/2”W x 5 7/8”H
• Literature tabs • Push hub for safe disc removal
• Durable poly-propylene material • Embossed HD-DVD logo
• Color: Red Tint • Case size: 6 1/2”H x 5 1/2”W

DVD International: Combo Disc Replacement Cases: $ 0.70 a piece plus shipping

http://www.dvdinternational.com/pd_hd.cfm

I ordered 8, it was $11.10 shipped to MI. Not sure if they're like the Universal ones with the locking tab or not, but they've got to be better than the SquareDeals ones.

agreed with the ViVa elite cases

best cases out there- muuuuuuuccccccchhhhhh better than amaray or any of the other hd-dvd / blu ray cases

http://www.viva-elite.com/

trouble is finding someone who sells them on line!

here's a pic of what the amaray discs look like- dont like them as they've ruined some of my dvd hubs over the years (cracks the hubs)

Well after becoming a some what HD DVD case expert I found out a few things when it comes to these cases. First off there are different colors some lighter than others the only ones that are the darkest red are the Viva cases and these seem to be more solid, but the draw back to these are the push out button’s they don’t work very good. And you sometimes have to pry out your disk it’s a bad design imo. And there are square back cases and round backs which are the norm, the hard ones to find are the square back and Universal cases with the fold away tab.

There are also different types of bindings square & rounded the Viva cases are rounded and don’t completely conform to the case mold in other words it doesn’t seal real good and leaves a small gap, but these seem to be the most solid. Here is a list of likes and dislikes about different cases. Also any cases that has the PP and triangle are manufactured to industry standards.

Nexus Amaray cases:
Rounded binding good seal.
Fold away locking tab good for taking on the road.
The pop out buttons don’t work very well.
Good window lamination for the cover art.
Opens and closes with good snap but not as easy as the square backs.

Viva cases:
Rounded binding but more squared doesn’t conform to the case molding not a very good seal.
Terrible pop out button out of all the cases I dislike the Viva ones the most.
Darkest cases out there afaik.
Good window lamination for cover art.
Opens and closes with the same result as the Nexus.

Square back cases:
I don’t know who makes these ones but it is conformant to the industry standard PP same color as the Universal cases.
Square binding conforms to the case perfect with a good seal.
The best pop out button to date always works and feels solid when putting back the disk as it has a three claw lock.
Easy archiving because there is no fold away tabs to deal with and always feel more secure when closing the cases compared to Universal cases.

Mermax cases are the cheapest with no logo, does not seal very well but does have a good pop out button as good as the square backs. Very light in color and there is no PP so it does not conform to the indusry standard.

So I decided to use all of the square back ones for my library because it’s easier to read the titles due to it being more squared and not rounded. And it also gives me that bookish feeling when browsing and opening up the cases.

The Universal ones are strictly for traveling because of the locking tab. I’ve already did all of my HD DVD’s with the square backs and I am about to do all of my Blu ray movies in the same cases I like the red over blue and since it’s a dual player why keep two colors anyway.

From left to right is Viva, Nexus, square back unknown, Merax.

as per my link above

i do not think the viva cases have the awful locking tabs

certainly the viva elite cases do not {which are the best cases going around}

I robot , on blu ray is an example of the Viva Elite case

I prefer the Amaray and the generic "square back" cases. Definitely not a fan of the Vivas. I got some of the square ones on Ebay a while back for some of my HV deals and they were only about $.70 each after shipping. The center tabs are VERY strong and hold the disc VERY tight.

I ordered some off of amazon early this week. I got them in Yesterday with the Rush shipping as I needed the cases prior to Company coming over this Friday as my Shelves looked very weird with the Movie Gallery cases mixed in. Even with the shipping, I paid $1.60 a case for them. They have HD DVD written across the top of them in a unusual font with out the usual symbol with it, so it looks a little strange. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with them as they work very well.

That same guy has been getting way to much for those, btw I have the same ones Universal imports from Germany it's almost exactly the same one I use if not made by the same company, notice the PP with triangle logo from Universal mine are exactly in the same spot. So it's got to be Universal is making their own, I used to work the big lot back in the Air Wolf days for MCA records and Universal is one of the few studios that actually make their own stuff. If you want a few I'll sell them for 60 cents a piece I pay 31 cents per case for 100.

This photo was takin by pbroy over at high def digest this is the Universal German import case.

Here are mine as pbroy said the retaining tab may be a little different but as far as I can tell the quality is definitely there no doubt. Viva's shatter and break easier I have two red and one broken blu and they are all Viva's. I think the ones Universal uses are the best ones whatever they may be.

Left is the square spine on the right is the Viva Elite.

I received my cases yesterday and am very happy to report they are Viva Elite's with the "HD Logo --- Combo Format ---DVD Logo" written across the top. Very pleased with DVD International.

I just ordered 15 from DVD International after reading all the good things people are saying about the cases. I've picked up a few used HD DVDs that need new cases and I'm putting all the firmware updates I've burned off to disc in there as well just in case...

Thanks for the link!

So, I've read through this thread and checked my cases. I seem to have the Mermax, Seastone and Viva Elite. I prefer the Viva. Were can you order these again?
I wanted to order 30 of the "Combo" cases from DVD International until my shipping to Canada on a $ 21 order came out to $ 63 for a total of
$ 84 !!!

Geez.

I think that question was asked here before, but was never answered. I would like to know too.

And has anyone found a place that has reasonable shipping to Hawaii? I would like to put my harry potter collection in something better than the horrid cardboard cases they came in but I dont feel like paying 2-3 times the price of the cases in shipping.

Glad I could help. I liked'em so much, I ordered 10 more yesterday to put my dad's Star Trek set into that I bought him for fathers day (and a special thanks to the guy who made that great replacement cover art for all 10 discs)
