PS3 Remote Now Available at EB/GS

Thread Starter
I saw a posting over in the BD Players section that you can now get the PS3 remote at EB/GS stores.

Yes they are.

I just got lucky and grabbed the only one available at the GameStop by my office. I was not even looking for it as I did not think they were available yet.

It is 24.99. Even more strange is the fact that I could not find it on their website.

Why does everyone want the remote? I think the controller works great. I must be missing something...

Ease of use. Some of us would prefer using a standard remote to a game controller.

After being forced to use the game controller for the last month, I kinda got used to it, to the point I like it as much as a normal remote.

If I can't use my harmony and have to have an extra remote anyways, might as well be something I already have(and thats already next to said remote anyways), as opposed to paying $25 for yet another piece of redundant hardware.

Least, thats how I look at it...^^/

I'm sure there will be some kind of adapter or something later to let the PS3 work with a universal remote. Its ridiculous that something that's supposed to be a media center doesn't work with anything but bluetooth.

Why would there be an adapter?

After all, correct me if I am wrong, but if you connect a USB PC to PS2 adapter to your PS3's usb port, and connect the IR part of the PS2's remote to this adapter, all you have to do is program the Harmony 880, for example, to work with PS2 and voila, you have a remote for your PS3.

This works, right? If it does, why the need for an adapter?

The remote is much better than the game controller. My Game controller is going in a cabinet and will rarely see the light of day. For $26.24 after taxes it was a well worth it.

I've read some posts of people talking about that, but I don't know if actually works, or if its the best solution. I just think that if Sony is serious about people using the PS3 as part of their media center they should provide a simple, direct solution to people with universal remotes.

I just picked mine up from GS, here is a picture of it still inside it's retail packaging.

Sweet!
I'll check out my EB & GS tomorrow!

I just called mine they have them in stock. I still feel the need that I have to rush up there
in the morning to get it, before they go on ebay for $200 a pop.

The logic makes sense. I would like that option for my Pronto 7K. Can anyone confirm???

While its not a big deal to me either way. I bet Logitech will put out a USB IR sensor so that one will be able to use thier Harmony remotes with the PS3. That whole PS2 controller adapter to IR thing is so clumsy, and from what I read it isnt fully functional. I also agree that using the controller is actually pretty intuative after you get used to it, I even prefer it to my keyboard and mouse at times while using the PS3's intergrated internet browser. In the mean time...BT remote will do.

That thing is ugly compared to my Logitech 720. No thanks. Will stick with the controller.

I purchased the remote yesterday, but it would not (bluetooth) register itself on my system, despite upgrading to system software 1.32, and following all the directions that were given. Sony support couldn't get it to work either. Any one else have any luck with it? I'll take it back and get a new one in case it is defective, but I wonder if it is a bug in Sony's software.

Sounds like a defective unit. Mine registered without a problem and works great. No complaints here so far... in fact it has exceeded my expectations.

I tried it. It occupies controller spot 1, so to play games, you have to disconnect it. In addition, the directional pad does not work. The only buttons that consistantly work are Circle, Square, Triangle and X. None of the DVD function buttons work. It's a very poor implimentation and not worth the expense unless you purchased your PS3 only as a Blu-Ray player and never change audio or watch extras.

I agree...total waste of money. Some people here have listed their significant other as the reason they want the remote. IMO....another remote I do not need to add to my collection. The controller works very well!!!

The buttons on mine work the same as on the game controller. It's just much easier with the remote. My game controller will almost never see the light of day.
And the controller does work with the remote connected. Either one will still work.
the remote works with SACDs also. It's much quicker for me to move around in the PS3 menus with the remote than with the game controller.

You don't need to disconnect it to play games. There is an option to assign a controller port to a controller which will take care of that.

If this remote will get people to go out and buy more blu ray movies, by all means get the remote and let's get this war over with.
