Harman Kardon AVR 635 stops responding when digital audio signal is bad

My HK AVR 635 was DOA right out of the box. When I powered the thing up it illuminated every light on the display and was not responsive to anything I did on the front panel or remote. I attempted a reset and got the same results. On at least one occasion, I got past this initial problem and was able to access the on-screen-display. Unfortunately, nothing I did in any of the menus did anything. The unit has not put out a single sound since I received it.

I contacted HK via email and they responded the next day. They asked that I provide them a copy of my receipt and said they will be getting back with me to arrange for another unit to be shipped.

This is my first HK product and even though my first experience is not going well. I'm going to reserve judgment until I receive a working unit. The part about this that chaps my ass is the fact that I was shipped a unit with what appears to be software issues. This should have been checked out before the unit was shipped. I can understand receiving a unit that was damaged in shipping, but receiving a unit from a manufacturer that was not checked out really pisses me off. Hopefully I'll get a good unit this time and enjoy the sound of my music again. But for now, I'm cooped up in the house with no receiver and as each day goes by, the more upset I become....Your pity will be graciously accepted.
