How much time left to take advantage of Amazon's 10% off offer?

I haven't ordered any HD DVDs yet from Amazon, so I'm curious. In order to receive 10% off HD DVD purchases for the next year, do we have until 12/29 to order 3 HD DVDs, or can we wait until January to order 3 and still take advantage of the promotion? If we have to buy them this year I may have to order 3 next week!

I would not wait. I think it is a 2006 promotion...

Actually scrolling down and reading the rules Here is your answer:

"Discount availability expires one year from the date of the qualifying purchase."

Here is the link to the promotion. If you scroll down the page, you'll see the entire list of rules.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=160066011

With any promotion, Amazon put in the qualifier of "Promotional offer valid for a limited time only." This would allow them to pull it at anytime without notice. BUT, one would assume since HD resolution software hasn't been avaiable for even a year that they wouldn't pull the "year long discount" only 8 months into it.

Edit: The clause also allows Amazon to extend the promotion Which I got the same email saying it would go through the end of calendar end. So appox. 20 months of a 10% discount is a nice thing.

I just got an email saying the promotion is being extended to the end of 2007! That's an extra four months of the discount for me, cool.

Same here. Got the email this morning.

Me too, that's an extra 6 months or so. I guess they are afraid we will shop elsewhere when it runs out.

Hello from Amazon.com. We had recently enrolled you in our 10% off on HD DVD and Blu-ray disc purchases for one year promotion, and we hope you are enjoying this exclusive offer. Due to the overwhelming popularity of this promotion, we have extended the 10% sale offer through December 31, 2007.

Although you won't see any promotional messaging on our Web site, the discount will continue to be automatically applied to qualifying orders through 2007. Please note that it may take up to 72 hours for the 10% discount to be active on newly released DVDs. If you are purchasing a newly released DVD and don't see the discount, please try again in 2-3 days.

Very nice, and a good way to keep people from going elsewhere.

Does this mean that the offer will work for new customers?

You had to have made your qualifying purchase by Dec 31, 2006 to qualify for the promotion according to the Amazon.com site.

And yes, I got the email too saying the offer has been extended through Dec 31, 2007 but I believe that is only for people who were already enrolled in the promotion.

Oh, okay, so this is essentially a way of simplifying it by applying the discount to eligible customers through the end of the year, saving them from having to keep track of the inital date for each account.

I was mucho pleased to get this extension notice!

I was pretty danged happy to get the e-mail!

Is this offer good for both HD DVD and Blu-Ray?

My initial purchase was three HD DVDs. Will I still get the 10% off if I buy Blu-Ray movies this year as well? Thanks.

Darn, so for those of us who did not purchase from Amazon.com yet we're out of luck. Oh well, looks like Walmart it is for me...

Just because I received this email, Amazon will get my business. Good going on their part!

I never got the email but just pre-order my Clerks II, The Matador and Lucky Number Slevin and the 10% was still working. No notice for me but that it's still working

I tried it last night with a secondary account and the discount worked.

What worked? 10% off with an account that you did not use previously to purchase HD DVDs?

Yes.

I tried it myself and i got an error message that the promotion wasn't valid.

Still working as of 4:50AM PST on Jan 7. Ordered three discs (two preorder) and entered the code and it gave me the discount.

The 10% discount on HD-DVD and BD, coupled with 2-day free shipping via Prime is hard to beat. Hopefully some major release announcements at CES will sweeten the HD pot.
I am concerned that if this discount is not available to new customers, Amazon is likely to become even more sloppy about applying it to new titles for pre-order than they have been in the past.

Well I knew about this since about last October but I had to wait because of Christmas expenses. Now I see that I missed it. Oh well, guess I won't be buying as much from amazon.
