Receiver upconverts...Do I need an upconvert DVD player?

I just ordered a Denon AVR - 987 that upconverts video. If the receiver handles the upconverting then do I need an upconverting DVD player? Is there any advantages to have an upconverting DVD player with this receiver?

It's kinda hard to buy a DVD player today that does not upconvert. All new DVD players can still output 480p. If you have a digital display, it has to scale also. So, you have 3 places to do it.

And only by directly comparing them can you tell which does the better job scaling.

Just an FYI the Denon 987 does not upconvert... It will pass whatever analog feed over the HDMI but it will not actually convert it to say 1080i or 1080p. Depending on what TV you have it shouldn't be a big deal, most of the new tv's will upscale to whatever the native resolution of the set is.
