I think even putting it above the fireplace there it would be okay. Doesn't seem to be that tall.

I have my XBR3 above my fireplace, and i think it looks great. Dont have a picture on hand, but i can try and take one this weekend. I really like it, and it was the only place i could put it. I just bought a new house, and this TV is going above my fireplace yet again.

The only concern i have with your setup it how will you mount it into that rock work without ruining it? I used an OMNI mount for mine, but its just drywall using 2 studs to mount.

My good ol' $99 WalMart special A2 is in there

Well my fireplace is a lot bigger but will see. I'll look into drilling into the rock. I never use my fireplace anyways. Its sitting there for 2 years and never touched so fire isn't that bad.

My living room is set up similarly with a brick fireplace. While it would be nice to have it there I opted to set it up on the other wall because I did not want to tear up the brick running cable through it. Plus, it would be tough to mount my large center channel without it looking odd.

Hello all,

My first post, I thought you folks would get a grin seeing my setup. The shelves are 3/4 inch plywood, with the edges made from styrofoam. I carved then had coated with a polyurethane. A little paint and Yabba-Dabba-Dooo. Cables are hidden in the vertical "wood" shafts. These are the same product as the shelves, which cover the threaded rod supports. Shelves are adjustable as equipment comes and goes. (Mainly comes, to the lament of my wife.) I have a matching tall shelf system on the opposite wall which holds all my "serious" high fidelity equipment.

Thanks for letting me share,
spencer

Equipment:
Panasonic TH58PZ700U
Yamaha DSP-A1 (Yea I know, almost time for upgrade)
Toshiba HD A35
Infinity SM 185 mains (building a new set)
B&W LCR6 52 center
Klipsh KSC-C1 rears
Definitive Technology PF 15 sub

Here is my 42" LCD above the fireplace. It's a gas fireplace that we use at times. The TV is angled at the sofa and we have no eye-strain or neck pain or other viewing issues. I used a mount that was $169 at BB and $40 delivered at Monoprice. Pardon the intrusion of my foot in the shot.

Last time I checked this was Pictures of your HD DVD setup, not bash on peoples HD setups.

I think it looks great, and thanks for sharing your picture.

RE the fireplace, many people have no choice - the fireplace is the center focus of many rooms.

I agree, unless it's a low fireplace that is at eye level. This one looks like a higher one, which seems to be why he has to angle the LCD down...which defeats the sleak look IMO. I am fortunate, I have a sick owl cove in my home, so a SXRD looks like a flat panel because there is no viewing the back side of my setup from the sides.

Yep, I like his setup too! Are those speakers for your IB?
It's actually a quad 18" sealed subwoofer. Two Carvin 1800w amps power it. It is a very cozy, comfortable room. I've spent wayy too much time in there since I built it. At least my wife knows where to find me.

Here's some of the construction pics:

Back of the room:

Lobby:

I took alot of work but I am completely in love with the results. HD movies are stunningly good, and the audio is mind-blowing.

For equipment, I currently have:

Epson Pro Cinema 1080p
Integra DTR 8.8 Receiver
Integra DHS 8.8 HD-DVD
XBox 360
Sci Atlanta HD-DVR cable box
Monster Power surge

PSB CH-80 mains (3)
PSB CW-383 w/ acoustic chambers for rears and side surrounds (4)

Next step is the acoustic treatments, then a real calibration and eq.

Enjoy!

Very nice! One thing though when you use a black back ground it really enhances your movie experience. It really makes a big difference when viewing because all your blacks blend in with the back ground.
