Come on Winnipeg. I'll do business elsewhere until BB brings HD DVD to its stores.

Has anyone seen what if pricing is at BlockBuster for Blu-Ray & HD DVDs is comparable to other retailers?? You can PM me with examples.

There isnt really a blockbuster in my area so I'm a Rogers guy, but I see that BBV has a trade in program for store credit. I am thinking this may be an easy way to unload some of the old DVDs and pick up some HD DVDs. Anyone else tried this?

I was actually surprised when I walked into the Broadway Blockbuster in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago. There were approx. a dozen HD DVD and Blu-ray titles each for rental (pretty puny selection). But, this is ONLY the beginning.

As far as sales go, I was quite impressed with Blockbusters pricing. I don't have a lot of examples, but I do remember stuff like "Constantine" selling for a dollar or two LESS than the big box electronics stores.

I'm very surprised that Calgary has the most BBs with HD rentals!
Too bad none of those locations are within the downtown core.

I just read the FAQ on BBs Canadian website. Definitely gives a pretty unbiased comparison between the two formats. They give an estimate of how much HD video can be stored on each format:

BD-25 - 5 hours
BD-50 - 9 hours

HD-15 - 4 hours
HD-30 - 8 hours

obviously, there's always limiting factors to each, but I think most people who read that will see that Blu-Ray's capacity isn't that much better than HD DVD.

Maybe I will go out of my way to make a few rentals at BB...

What the best online Site for renting HD DVD (Blu Ray too as I am contemplating a PS3) as I am using ZIP online, because I have no choice but to go online due to a remote location, they are notoriously slow in shipping HD DVD titles and I have only seen one HD DVD despite 12 of them being on the top of my list with sequence rather that availabity selected.
Any recommendations? Canflix others?

Speaking for the vancouver location I notice since they released tittles a couple of months ago they have not added ANY new releases to the section. question how they can test the markets interest in HD DVD and BD with tittles like U571, Four Borthers etc. BB will admit that the money for them is in the new release rentals, so why measure a new format in anything but?

No idea on the prices for the rentals but the retail prices aren't too bad for some. Superman and V for Vendetta were maybe a buck or 2 more then Future Shop and Best Buy when they keep the prices low. Although my Burlington location takes a long long long while to add anything new to rent or buy. They finally just got in The Departed and Babel too buy yesturday, but didn't see anything for rent. They seem to be the same 12-15 movies for both HD-DVD/BR on the shelf all the time since they started promoting the formats. I have unloaded a ton of movies since they brought in HD-DVD/BR at the store. Traded in and got Sahara and V for Vendetta. Then yesturday i unloaded bout 70 sd-dvds and went duel format with the 20GB PS3. So i love the trade in and will be looking for more old movies i have no use for anymore.
