Which players does The Descent NOT Play on?

Now I'm being accused of being the only guy with an upgraded Samsung who can't get The Descent to play. I REALLY hate it when I'm accused of bogus crap. So, it's poll time.

Is it too late to exchange your Sammy?

Exchange? I'm thinking RETURN! Why am I putting up with this crap? I gave BD a shot, but it keeps smashing me in the face with a shovel!

That sucks... I'd be PO too, guess I'm just lucky. I'm very happy with the Sammy I got.

Does it play Speed and LXG too?

Like I said in the other thread, no problem with Speed other than a slower than normal load. I did forget to mention though that, when that "slideshow" thing comes up, hit the menu button to finish the load. I have no interest in LXG, so I can't comment on that one.

So how many firmware updates have been released?

Unfortunately I don't have the ability to write to a disc. See, Toshiba actually sends you a disc. So I guess I'm screwed then, huh?

There were two in very short succession. I'd burn it fresh and try the upgrade again.

There have ben others that even with the same disc solved issues with a subsequent loading of the FW upgrade for what ever reason.
PS: First I have heard of the issue and I plan on try'n it tonight in my updated Samsung.

They will do that? Do they send it on a CD?

EDIT: AH HA! I found it on their website.

http://www.samsung.com/support/produ...ad/index.aspx#

Just click on the "Blu Ray Disc Player Software Upgrades" thing and you can enter your info to get a CD-ROM in the mail. Cool, I didn't know they did that!

Does that allow you to hear DTS on DVDs over the analog cables? Cuz, it's kind of annoying that you can't do that.

Oh, that stutter thing.

I'm curious about the 2 people who said the PS3 can't play it. Do you know what firmware you have? I'm just wanting to help people that haven't gotten it yet to know if they may have an issue.

plays on my ps3, not sure if I'm glad I bought it yet though....was hoping for more scare and less go girl action.

I was expecting more responses, but the results are interesting. And I am not the only one with an updated Sammy that won't play it!

IN YOUR FACE EARZ!

I had to call Samsung several times in order for them to mail the CD.

The first time I called I gave my name and address and the person said it would be mailed.

Several weeks later I had not received it and called back. This time the person said I needed to supply my serial number from the player in order to receive it. This time it came.

I had filled in that box on the web-site much earlier and this led to nothing.

So you need to call them, and have your serial number handy when you call.

"SAMSUUUUUUNG!"

But I don't have The Descent, so I don't know if my player will play it.

And I certainly got my CD before 12/17, so I may not have the most recent update.

Hey you guys, just dots loading screen does not guarantee your firmware is latest version, to check this out, press "info" key on remote while tray open. and see the message, when you find the version number as 61011.1 then you have latest version of firmware so far.

You left the Pioneer Elite player off the poll question.
This should have been a public poll, imo.

I just want to make clear that the latest Samsung update DOES allow you to view The Descent. The menus are slow and glitchy, but you can watch the film. Some have reported problems with the still gallery, but I haven't tried that yet.

Everyone else is screwed.
Works flawless in the PS3. Menus are super fast! Loads the disc in less than 10 secs.

I'm thinking maybe the 3 people who voted for the PS3 either have old firmware are are unfortunately anti-PS3 people. I hope it's not the latter.
The stills and other features played fine on my Sammy, it was just slow as hell.
Yep, no problems with any of the features on my Samsung. The menus and sliders are slower than the Panasonic, but they are fully functional.

I had a problem with the disk skipping on my PS3 20GB...I need to upgrade the firmware...I will try to update tomorrow.
Well, it plays on my PS3 60 GB but it froze about 10 times for about 10 to 15 secs each time. Annoying.
I did not have any problem playing the "Descent" on my Panny. I do have the firmware upgrade version 1.4 installed though.
I have the European Panny tested with firmware 1.1, 1.2 and 1.4 and no one played the Descent disc. Always freeze in the menu with sound only but without picture. No navigation possible. A second Panny shows up the same result.

A test in a store with a Samsung BDP-1000 with original firmware shows that the Samsung doesn't play the disc, either. The Samsung couldn't even load the disc.

Funny, I updated my firmware an hour before watching this disc. Any other suggestions?
