Final Fantasy III (DS)

I got this for Christmas and WOW. It's REALLY good. The graphics are great and it works very well on the DS. You can choose to use the stylus or not. I hope they remake FF7 on the DS, that would be great. Anyone else playing this?

Agree...completely awesome. I've logged about 11 hours so far. I don't use the stylus or touch screen at all. I just use buttons. They did a really great job overhauling it and I would rebuy other Final Fantasy's if they'd give them this treatment.

I picked up a ds and a g6lite back in july. I gave into the massive demand in japan and figured something has to be going on with the system to make it so wanted. Best handheld platform ever, so much good stuff. FF3 is awesome and DQ9 looks even better...

Agreed...

Castlevania: POR is very awesome too - just beat it over christmas...You will like it for you like a FF (its a action game with heavy RPG character growth)

Anyone have suggestions for which jobs are good? I've played FF7 and FF9 but they didn't have this job aspect. I generally like a warrior/tank, healer, summons, and mage.

I picked this up a while ago and I couldn't really get into it. The story is kind of dull

I'm at the point just after you clear the fog...if you don't know what that means don't worry. I'm using a Knight, a Black Mage, a White Mage, and the Geomancer. Just earned 4 or 5 new jobs so I need to experiment.

Since jobs unlock over time, usually you start with the less powerful jobs and earn the more powerful ones. For instance there are two power levels of each of the martial artist, the summoner and the mages, and a whole variety of tanks (warrior, knight, viking, dragooner, dark knight)

How I break down the progressions:
Freelancer - change this as soon as you can
Warrior, Knight, Viking, Dragoon, Dark Knight (These are not neccessarily in order of power)
Monk, Black Belt
White Mage, Devout
Black Mage, Magus
Red Mage, Sage
Thief, Ninja
Evoker, Summoner
Odd Specialties: Ranger, Scholar, Geomancer, Bard

I used to do the following for FF7:

Cloud - Main attacker/warrior
Red - Mostly used for magic and attack
Tifa - Cure/heal/revive and summon/magic

Let me just find the moogle....

I tried sending you a messege via Mognet, but I think you need to add me to your system before we can communicate. The only benefit appears to be a couple small side quests and a job that can be unlocked by messaging a certain number of times.

Yeah it's more of a "oh cool" feature.

Apparently Dragon Quest IX will be more of an interactive team battle sort of thing...could be interesting if they do it over the net.

I tried sending you a message but your code was greyed out. I was able to put you in the address book but not able to send a message.

One of the knocks I heard against FFIII for the DS was that it doesn't use both screens for most of the game - one of them just sits there blank. Is that true? I think I read it in the IGN review, but they have a tendancy to blow tiny things out of proportion in their reviews.

Anyone played FFV on the GBA? I purchased a GBA when I read that most of the classic FF games were being re-released for the GBA and I'm through I, II, and IV. Not sure if I want to pick up V and play through it before VI is released next month.

It is blank sometimes but not too often. Most of the time your world map is displayed. Also, whenever you go into the menu system to change equipment, magic, etc the game window where your character is shifts to the top screen. It's also nice when you're at an item, magic, armor, or weapon shop your characters will be on the top screen and the buy window is at the bottom. Your characters will either be lit or dark depending on whether they can use the highlighted armor, weapon, etc.

Stryker...I have the same issue, your number is greyed out...although I haven't turned mine on in a couple days. I wonder if initially we have to be on at the same time to get it to authenticate that we added each other.

Top screen is blank whenever you are in a dungeon walking around/fighting.

I tried to send you another message tonight and this time it was white, so I think it went through. Check it out.
