Finally beat General Raam

After about an hour of trying different strategies. The one that ended up working for me is hitting him with the Torque Bow to clear the Kryll then I laid into him with the Lancer. First I tried just the TB, then the TB with the Longshot and I wasn't having any luck. Two tries with the TB and Lancer and I did it. Now off to try hardcore and to find some more cog tags. And maybe get brave enough to finally go online with it.

Yeah I know this is only on casual. But for me, just a casual shooter player, it is an accomplishment.

Trust me, it was an accomplishment for me as well. I was beginning to think I was never going to beat him... and that stupid, stupid, unskippable cut-scene was (for lack of a better word) stupid. I finally nailed Raam with repeated sniper rifle shots coupled with grenades to draw off the Kryll, and let out a huge sigh of relief.

The cutscene finale was fan-frackin'-tastic.

you CAN skip the cutscene........... hit A or some such

You can skip the majority of the cutscene. Still it would be nice to have saved outside the door, but then I guess you couldnt try out different weapon combos. I FINALLY beat him on insane by myself with TB and Hammerburst .... the lancer may have worked better as you can lay in with the entire clip.

I finally figured out after about a 1/2 hour that you can skip the cut scene. I was really getting tired of watching it.
Yeah I figured out how to skip the cutscenes finally.. x button
post #7 of 43
Doh!

I only tried the a button....

I beat Raam on casual and hardcore but I can't seem to down him on insane. The whole game takes a lot more patience on insane.
Get a co-op to help and you should be able to knock him off.

General Raam isn't hard. There is a trick.

You don't shoot him until the Krill swarm attacks you. If you stay in the light then you'll be fine. Just stay ducked behind cover, wait for the swarm to leave him, then unload. If you find that Raam is getting too close to you, then quickly run away from him and duck behind cover. It helps if you stay at one of the two ends.

Stay in the light, hide, wait, unload...it only took me 10 minutes to beat him.

What level were you playing at?
There are many different strategies, but the best one for all difficulties is simply torquebow/grenades. The key is to keep the torque bow throughout the level, that way you will have 12 arrows going into RAAM instead of 6. With all 12 arrows, and some grenades, you can take down RAAM before he even gets to the cover you start at. This is how I beat him on insane. Perfect active reloads are also key.

After you've unloaded all 12 torque arrows he will either be dead, or will be close to you, so blind toss every grenade you have over the wall and he will go down.
I tried beating him solo but couldn't do it. After 1hr I gave up. I then tried coop and beat him in less than 30 seconds. Few Grenades and Lancer worked quite well.
Raam was easy on all skill levels.
Blind fire from behind a wall with the shotty and granades kills him in record time, even on insane.
With coop, he's still a challenge, but not so much. We usually try to get one player using the grenade launcher from the lancer and a torque bow, the other with a Torque Bow and a Longshot(me). Use the Torque Bow to clear off the Kryll and then use the Lancer/Longshot combo to work him over. Both players carry Torque Bows so that when one runs out of ammunition(assured on insane), you can still drop his butt.

It took me and a friend 10 trys on medium and 1 try on Hard to beat Raam hehe.

If it makes any of yall trying to beat Raam feel better, I'm still stuck beating the first berserker. Got bored not roadie running straight and switched to tomb raider for the rest of the night. I love just now getting a 360 because there are all these great games to play! And I got them cheaply used!!

Make sound and make the berserker follow you and make it go back into where it came and continue on outside and use the hammer of dawn...Quite simple once you know the strategy.

I was drooling over RAAM I got to him last night and beat him on my first try went back and tried it on Hardcore a bit tougher he moved faster and got closer to me but I just ran to the opposite side of the train and kept on shooting...I thought it was easy...

I know I suck then. It took me three weeks to beat him.

I doubt its you that suck...I've played it since I beaten it and Dom seems to screw me over more so than anything else when fighting Raam....The AI seems to run smoothly throughout the game (at least to me) until you get to the end and he is more or less a human shield....

I am just sure to have plenty of ammo and a few grenades which can all be found before you enter the room.

My buddy and I just beat Raam on insane the other night. I think it took us like 7-9 tries or so. He is MUCH tougher on insane. Also, I think it is much more manageable if you have a friend taking over Dom.
Hey! Don't be so quick to badmouth Dom! The first time I played through on Casual, Dom actually helped beat Raam. Raam ended up getting stuck behind a fallen Dom So I just sat back and unloaded on Raam until he bit it. A couple of days ago I beat him on Hardcore, but this time Dom was no help. I did it with the longshot mainly, and I had to switch ends a couple of times to get enough shots in. But I was determined, and I was glad I finally beat him legit-wise. I never mastered the torquebow, so it was useless to me at that point. If you're a master at the roadie run and can escape the upclose encounters with Raam, it should be no problem.

Dom was useless on insane
There is a trick to Raam. once you know it, it is not that hard to kill him. There is also a way to get him stuck behind one of the boxes then you just use the box/lancer/grenades to kill him.

Insane is wayyyy harder then hardcore throughout the entire game. The Reavers on act 5 were actually harder for me then raam. Tip, throughout act 5 on insane, get the bow, and grab as many arrows as you can, don't use them until you get to the reavers and then again at raam

People have mentioned the "trick" 15 times on this board but no one has ever explained it.
You don't need any tricks, really. 12 rounds of torque bow /w active reload will take him down every time -- long before he ever gets near you.
Yah there's no trick, just alternate between the torque bow and machine gun and when Ramm comes to you jump over the barrier and run to the other barrier on the other side.
If you are really stuck just do it on Co-op and it will give you and a buddy and extra chance.
I did it on both. It was a little harder by myself but it's definitely do-able. 3 weeks seems kinda long to me. A couple days really at most.

After 2 hours of trying everything and getting my ass handed to me everytime (this was on casual mind you.) I started blind throwing grenades at him and that seemed to do the trick. LOL!
