what 50"-70" 1080p TV is best for xbox360/ps3?

Hi guys. I am looking for a 1080p TV that is 50"-70". I will use it for Xbox360, PS3, Wii, and HD DirecTV. Can anyone recommend the best TV to use for gaming? I have no preference of technology, whether it is LCoS, DLP, LCD, or Plasma. Will the Wii likely lag since it's 480p output?

I have researched it for a few hours, and the Sony KDS-R60XBR2 looks like it might be a nice choice, but I don't know what all of the currently available TVs are.

Thanks

SONY SXRD!! I have the 55A2000 and my 360 looks amazing on it.

I have a KDS-R60XBR1 and dispite all the green glob talk mine looks awesome. An associate came over to borrow a game the other day, he had not been impressed with Gears of War and was having a problem getting past the Beserker. He asked me to show him how to do it. I fired it up on my KDS-R60XBR1 and his jaw dropped and he was like "OMFG no wonder you love that game.....look at that detail..." and on an on.

Now I only have the 360 also but I think SONY was hoping that the PS3 and XBRs would be a killer combo so I assume it will look just as good if not better with the PS3. Wii may be a different story since its not HD but I dont really know.
post #9 of 34
I would not recommend the Sony SXRD's because they do not fully support the XBOX360 VGA cable. If you want 1080P, the Sony's not for you. I have a 60A2000 and it is an amazing TV, but i cant get DVD upscaling nor 1080p HD-DVD playback. The component only accepts up to 1080i as well.

Hi mrlittlejeans, can you tell me if you have your 360 connected via component or VGA? The TV specs say it will not do 1080p over component. Does the VGA input of the TV support 1080p, and display it correctly? If it does, this is the TV I'm getting.

I will be connecting to the TV :
DirecTV HR20 = HDMI (1080i)
PS3 = HDMI (1080p)
Wii = component (480p)
Xbox360 = VGA? (1080p)

I had 1080p with my Xbox 360 on my Sony KDL-40XBR2 through the VGA connection. I've seen the Xbox 360 in 1080p and in 1080i through component connection on the same XBR2; there was no perceptable difference between the two as far as resolution was concerned. The only issue I didn't like was that the colors seemed somewhat washed out looking on the VGA connection, so I went back to component and used 1080i.

If you are looking for a RP TV, I'd go with the 60XBR2 in a heartbeat. If you are looking for a flat panel LCD, I'd go with the 40, 46, or 52 XBR2. IMO, Sony's got the best PQ of any set out there.

BTW, I've got a Satellite, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 hooked up to this 40XBR2. Life is definitely good in this room of the house!

55A200 after getting a green blob on my 50XBR1. Both looked great with my 360 though.
post #15 of 34
hey Rugen - I've got the 360 hooked up via component. I suspect the deinterlacer in the tv is probably better than the deinterlacer in the xbox. i haven't even bothered to get the vga cable to try it out. i doubt the 360 via vga will look better than the component on the xbr2. i also have a Toshiba A2 hd-dvd player hooked up to the tv via hdmi. looks awesome.

i use the xbox hd dvd player on my 720p projector in the other room. looks great. will see how much better it looks when my JVC RS-1 gets here.

If money is not much a concern at all.

the Pioneer-Elite 60" 1080p plasma " best picture out there"

If your concern is uderstandable
check out the Sharp aquos 1080p LCD's 50"+. "Outstanding PQ"

or If your like me (whant to get the best bang for the buck) check out the 47" 1080p Westinghouse LCD. " superb PQ"

I got the 37" very happy with it

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have a Sony KDS-R60XBR2 mated to an Xbox360 via VGA? I am just waiting to confirm this, and then I will buy the TV. I want to have the Xbox360 connected with VGA so 1080p is sent to the television, thereby negating the possibility of any lag.

If I connected with component, I could only supply 1080i or 720p, so due to the TV converting to 1080p, I expect there would be some lag, or at least so I have read.

I've decided that I can't do a Plasma due to the fact that my viewing habbits (gaming, news, pausing content, 4:3) would cause burn-in, and I can't worry about that.

I also do not really want DLP since it seems that all current DLP TVs use wobulation, including the HLS-5679W LED and NuVision 52LEDLP that I had considered. Also don't want myslef or anyone else in my house to see rainbows.

I think LCoS is the way to go...supposed to have superior picture quality, no wob or rainbows, no burn in worry. Well, for me it is looking like either LCoS or maybe an LCD like the Sony KDL-52XBR2 or Samsung LN-S5296D.

My Mitusbishi 1080p DLP 73927 suits me fine, with XBOX 360 on at 1080p VGA, and PS3 going In HDMI 1080i. Best picture I've seen. ^_^

Your not going to get lag while hooked up with component to the LCOS XBR2's or VGA. You can't get 1080P with the XBR2 it only supports full 1080P with the HDMI connection. You are not going to get lag or honestly see any difference with 1080I component vs 1080P HDMI. The display is that good. To end all curiosty or debate or whatever go to a store have them work for your money by taking a PS3 to 2 XBR 2 50, 60, 70 inch models and have one hooked up by component and the other hooked up by HDMI.

i own the "70 XBR2 and it is definately the best gaming tv ive ever owned...no lag whatsoever and it looks amazing...its also great for HD-dvd and BD...in other words...buy it!

don't forget there is a 57" samsung lcd. great set but component is only 1080i.

vga 1080p hdmi 1080px2

i think the westinghouse 47" will do 1080p via component, vga, dvi, and hdmi

how's that?

As a new JVC HD-56FC97 owner, I can safely not recommend this set for gaming. I'm constantly fiddling with the settings trying to get rid of the "projected" look of the image. Once I'm able to get rid of the projected look, I have an image that's both too bright and overly color saturated. I've yet to find a satisfying balance.

I had been using a 42" plasma prior to getting a dead pixel and returning it for the JVC D-ILA. This set works great with most broadcast media, especially football, basketball, and hockey, but suffers a little in dark movie sequences. If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with the Toshiba 50" plasma that I could have had for the same price I paid for the JVC. It's not 1080p, but I don't see where I gain that much with the JVC's 1080p capability so far. I miss that solid, organic look of plasma with XBox 360 games!

The Sony 52xbr3's manual states it allows 1080p via the component input.
post #24 of 34
I m using a pioneer 5071. 360 is 720p so are most ps3 games. 1080p is overated.

so all my games are at native. look WAY better than my last 1080p sharp 5262U.

Let alone 1080i...according to the actual tests and not the literature from xbox.com.

"Unfortunately 1600x1050 and 1900x1080 (1080p) resolutions cannot be selected, so basically the highest HD equivalent output of this cable is 720p."

http://www.ocmodshop.com/ocmodshop.aspx?a=296&p=816

"Curiously, the VGA cable does not unlock the 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution or any resolution near the WUXGA standard, leading us to believe that when the Xbox 360 outputs 1080i using the HD component cable, it only does the old 540-upconvert-to-1080i trick."

http://hardware.teamxbox.com/reviews...D-AV-Cable/p1/

So until Micro$haft comes out with a HDMI solution for the 360, we won't really be seeing 1080p. So it's of no concern to have a VGA input on ur tv.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the information guys. I got the KDS-R60XBR2. Will just put the 360 in with component at 720p for now, and have the TV upscale it.

In the meantime, I will be looking for a 1080p VGA to 1080p HDMI converter/processor/scaler. Please post up here if anyone knows of such a thing. The main reason being to eliminate gaming lag, and have a fully capable HD DVD for the 360.

That is massively outdated information. 1080p works fine over VGA and component.

lost,

Have you experienced any lag with the 5687? More specifically, concerned about hooking up the 360, as I believe I'll leave the PS2 on the "old" TV

TIA

I have 60xbr1, no lag here whatsoever using component cables.
