Thin vertical lines inch apart.. Is my set defective?

While setting up my new HP-S4233 it developed a strange vertical line pattern all the way across the display. This seem to happen right while testing my programing on my universal remote.

Is this a defect that has just appeared, or is it possible my remote sent a discrete code that has put the set in some odd mode?

Setting up a return or exchange is going to be a huge pain in the ass... Samsung's phone number seems to be rinning busy so I have no help there and the stores sales staff are too busy to take a call it seems..


Any suggestions? Should I enlist help, and start boxing it back up?

Finally was able to contact Samsung and the Store, both say the unit is defective. Problem is the store is out of stock from the sale price and the warrenty service estimates one week to get the service call in and probably another 2 for parts if needed.

Looks like I will be waiting for the store to get more stock.

Third option is just to return it but at $1299 CAN I think I would be hard pressed to find an equivalent..

That's why I jumped on it when it went on sale this week... I am however freaking my self out with reading all of the Plasma Burn in and After image threads.

I plan on gaming on this thing and don't want to see video game HUD faintly visible while I am watching movies or TV.

Purchased it at FutureShop.. NOTHING they are stocking in LCD comes close the the $1299 boxing day price. Also every time I stand in front of a LCD I feel like I am looking at a giant computer screen.. I like the look of plasma much better and I have mostly SD sources still which I think look better on the Samsung Plasmas.

I am not a hard core gamer, I am a casual everything... I plan on gaming, watching movies and watching TV on this unit.

Show me something 42" that FutureShop stocks for close to $1299 that is worth exchanging for.. I am not seeing anything on the site that isn't +$500 more, which is out of the question as $1299 was a stretch but a deal I couldn't pass up as I am in need of a replacment living room set.

For reference they ended up replacing the logic board or main board if I remember correctly.
