Hello AVS'rs,
My wife and I (actually, more the wife... I'm lucky) are just about ready to buy a Samsung HP-S5053 from our local shop. Price is good, [EDIT] CDN and I like the look of it. Other options in plasma are Panasonic and Hitachi ("Director's Edition"), but I don't like the silver of the Panasonic and apparently the Hitachi's are priced to high.
Anyhow, while I plan on viewing some familiar content, I've been doing some digging around online, here and elsewhere and it seems the Samsung is a good choice. However, I'm a little concerned about CNET's review of the set. They reference really poor results in darker scenes citing noise and abrupt drop offs to black.
Anyone else have this problem?
Anyone strongly recommend against this particular set?
We are not set up for HD yet, but plan to be shortly. We watche a fair bit of movies and I'd like Gears of War to look alright on whatever we buy.
FWIW, we're replacing a Sony XBR CRT, 32".
Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice.
