So, How many of you are actually playing the PS3 in HD? - Page 2

Full 1080p here. Check MySpace in sig for my set up.

I just got a monster hdmi cable (said it was engineered for ps3) from comp usa and hooked it up to my sharp aquos 42 and it played monster house in 1080p but when I put in fall of man it only showed 720p?
Resistance is only a 720p game, as are many PS3 games.

Most 360 games are also 720p, despite 1080i being available early on (and 1080p becoming possible in the recent update). 720p (and 30fps) are a common recourse taken by many game developers, though you can expect that to change in 2007.

Thanks ,that eases my concerns. What is the best(pq) game in 1080p? I would like to check it out in all its glory. I have the wii ,ps3 and 360.

I'm in heaven. The Wii is on our 57" Toshiba in the living room for party stuff, and ps3 and 360 in my 'home office' for 7.1 surround and 1080p beauty...

Are you connected via HDMI to your 42" Westy? I am, and at 1080p, I get some serious "sparkles" in the picture. I assume it's the TV, and have heard the HDMI isn't fully compliant, which is a true shame.

Sometimes the sparkles are so bad they distract me from the beautiful picture.

Wonder if there is a fix for this? (besides buying a new TV).

BTW, this is what the sparkes look like (not my video).

1080p when available here. Samsung 46" 4696D LCD display.

1080p over component using 42" Insignia NS42LCD

I wish I can get HDMI to work so I can watch blu-ray in 1080p too
post #39 of 63
"Full" HD here, too. Got my PS3 hooked up to my Samsung LN-S4096d and absolutely love it...

GT demo, NBA 2k7 look fantastic in 1080P...

720p, 1080i, and 1080p are all HD. So anyone with a set in that range...(save for those with that 1080i native problem) are "actually playing the PS3 in HD".

I too have this tv and also have that problem, i can watch my blue rays in 1080i but when i select 1080p it tells me invalid format, i have the monster 1080p cable so i'm not sure what the issue is, i'm hoping that the software update that insignia told me about is gonna fix this issue, we will see i guess

It's the same difference as my PC games at 1920x1080 vs 1280x720, 2.2x the number of pixels. Plus it's the native resolution of my LCD, so no blurring.

They have a new version (1.03) that fixes this and hand shaking issues. Of course you can try DVI and that should fix it too. I get sparkles with HDMI, but not DVI.

Full 1080p via the 71" Samsung HLS-7178W.

720P/ 1080i Sony KDFE50A10 Works well enough for me, that Im really not in a hurry to get a 1080p set
post #48 of 63
1080i when the games output it, otherwise I'm bitchslapped down to 480p. I'll just keep renting instead of paying for 720p games.

Doesn't look too bad, like a really good xbox game. Games like GTHD look fantabulous.

A lot of my friends play PS3 SD...

They got it for the new games and the new media functions/online features plus the 'My toy is cooler than your toy factor'...

I was using the 1080p 60A2000 but opted to return it and continue to play on my older 720p 50A20. The 60" was definitely a nicer set all around but was hard to justify paying the money for something really not needed. Instead I up graded to some Energy RC-30's (freaking sound incredible)! I'll also be upgrading my receiver soon as well (have a "rental") right now.

I definitely can in blu-ray movies. They still look fantastic on 720p sets but they definitely look better on a 1080p set.

For games, I could tell on GT HD and RR7, but not overly significant. They both look great at 720p as well.

edit: I must say I've played Resistance and Motorstom on SD sets as well, still very fun and looks good.
For sure!

1080p here trough a 37w3 and THX Certified SOUND with DD, and DTS.

I can't imagine anything less... I can't wait to see OBLIVION on this thing in 1080p
post #52 of 63
1080p here too. Samsung HLS-5087W DLP and playing GT:HD and MotorStorm(I know its 720p) look so good.
Also watched Crank and am thinking to myself, my God this movie sucks but can't stop watching because its so beautiful.
Frankly, I have no idea why anyone would buy a PS3 to NOT play it in HD....

If you have SD, buy a Wii. I'm currently running a PS3 on SD until I give it to the rents to use for Bluray, and it looks like crap.
My thoughts exactly. It would be pointless to spend so much just to watch it on a SDTV.

I just ordered a 20" Sceptre so I will soon be HD.

No I don't. I sit eight feet away. Still I also use a front projector @ 768 P and it looks very good as well. Breath taking in many cases. Really though there isn't much of a good reason to upgrade just yet unless you are going to use HD-DVD or Blu-ray!
Strange thing is my Sony projector via HDMI has no problems, but with my Westy it flashes for several minutes before it settles down. I wonder why it does that!
I play in 1080i.
