Underworld & Underworld Evolution on HD-DVD in Spain?

Hello world,

Did your hear the rumors, that say Underworld and Underworld Evolution will find their way to HD-DVD in Spain?

So far I only saw photos of the covers in the web - but photos can be fake.

Well, I hope it is true because this would be more great news for HD-DVD!

There has been some fake stuff from Spain lately due to their version of April Fools day. This might be part of that.

Yes, one of them, I think it is the first, has been announced for release in Spain. There is a thread on it here if you want to search for it.

So far the only fake stuff was the Blu-Ray cover of The Phantom Menace.
Those ads from Filmax and also DeAPlaneta are legitimate, and were posted in a previous thread some weeks ago, long before the Fools Day joke. Hope that helps.

The Underworld movies are distributed by Entertainment in Video (EIV) in the UK so i believe they are being released on HD DVD here......probably the same is true for Spain and the rest of Europe.

So why they aren't just released in the US for HD-DVD?

Stupid studios.

Is that El Cid and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly I see on that ad? Wow, 'El Cid' isn't even out on DVD here in the States and they're getting it on HD-DVD already in Europe? Not fair!
If that were to be true, would they be the Unrated versions or just the Theatrical ones?

Hi

According to a spanish dvd-website, Underworld is coming out in March in Spain, in both hd-dvd and blu-ray. But the cover art in the ad belongs to Underworld:Evolution, so I guess this will be the one released.

I guess they could be released in hd-dvd in the UK too, I hope you're right, because I don't trust much this spanish ads. March is still far away, and I don't see hd-dvd having a big success here, so who knows if they're cancelled or what.

dad1153, El Cid is not the Charlton Heston version (I assume you think it's that one), but an animated movie.

EIV has not announced HD-DVD support. A lot of their titles were listed on a UK etailer's website, leading to speculation that they would support HD-DVD, but I think they actually put out a press release stating they had no plans to release titles on HD-DVD.

Lets hope so. The first one is one of my favorite movies. Spoiler coming up for the sequel . . . . .

The 2nd one got rid of my favorite character Craven which probably needed to be done for story telling reasons. I enjoyed the movie but wasn't as impressed as I was with the first one. My only gripe about part one was the hybrid. It looked too much like an ordinary man in grey makeup. Surely that creature should have had a bit more werewolf in him. Still a very good movie.

I would probably import Underworld 2 but I wasn't a big fan of the first one...thought the second one was really cool though.

Funny this thread lads,
only watched the Blu-ray version of UE tonight..........good PQ (not as good as some people think though), excellent sound..
But, not sure why you are all waiting for a HD-DVD..........I thought the film was incredibly bad, definitely one on worst I've seen in a long time.....I put off watching it for a long time for various reasons and now I wish I never stuck it in the player

I'm sure there are some fans out there so its just my opinion, but I thought it was so bad they should get all the BDs, melt them down, press the HD-DVDs with them and then set fire to them..............

Most of them want UE in HD for the soft porn scene with Kate B.

Potential ban about to happen.

How about Underworld 3? Kate Beckinsale vs. the naked vampire chick from Lifeforce?

I'd go format neutral for that one...

I'd love to see the underworld movies on HD-DVD
Right now BD has 3 titles I really want to see.
Pearl Harbor
Underworld and UE.
I went so far as to purchase the SD-DVD versions of the underworld movies just so I could have a real copy(instead of backup) to play in my HD-A2.
If they do show up on XC's website I'll buy them in a heartbeat just like I did for harry potter.

It all depends who has the distribution rights. This is nothing new.

What's with "Point Break" being titled "__________ Bodhi"

?

Bodhi was Patrick Swayze's character's name, right? Maybe "Point Break" doesn't translate well, so they focused on Swayze instead. Weird.

Equilibrium is called Rebellion on the import versions, FWIW.

But it is the whole point behind is that they CAN be released on HD-DVD overseas and CAN be played on US players because there are no regions for HD-DVD. So why NOT just release them in the US?

Wouldn't the US yield better sales than overseas?

OK, is the first UNDERWORLD actually scheduled for release, or is this speculation? So far it looks like the latter.

I think about the first one is all speculation, as I explained in my previous post, because the cover art belongs to UE.

It's true that the list includes the first one though, but it should be a mistake.

The spanish dvd-website that announced this, seems to ask the distributors monthly what titles they're releasing next months, then they upload the lists. So it's supposed to be official from the spanish distributor, Filmax. The news is dated on 14th December.

Changing movies' titles is very usual in countries that show movies dubbed to local language in cinemas, like Spain. They are always absurd changes.

Yeah, I think Bodhi was Swayze's characters name. If you're curious, the complete title was 'Le llaman Bodhi'. Something like 'He's called Bodhi'.
