Indoor Antenna Advice

New member here - enjoying the site!

Here's my question: I am looking for some advice on a good indoor antenna.

Here are my antennaweb stats for the channels I want to pick up:

* yellow - uhf WBOC-DT 16.1 CBS SALISBURY MD 21° 9.8 21
red - uhf WMDT 47 ABC SALISBURY MD 351° 10.0 47
* red - uhf WMDT-DT 47.1 ABC SALISBURY MD 352° 10.0 53
red - uhf WCPB 28 PBS SALISBURY MD 83° 4.6 28
* red - uhf WCPB-DT 28.1 PBS SALISBURY MD 83° 4.6 56
red - uhf WBOC 16 CBS SALISBURY MD 21° 9.8 16

I am assuming I will only need a UHF capable antenna; the stations are relatively close to my location (approx. 5-10 miles).

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!

A good indoor antenna is the Silver Sensor also known as Zenith ZHDTV1 HDTV-UHF Digital Indoor Antenna. Do a search on Amazon for silver sensor. Look at its many customer reviews.
I'd stay away from the Terk look alike.

The Silver Sensor can also be found at some Circuit City stores, if you want to try it from somewhere where it's easily returnable.

You have a limited selection of digital stations in the Salisbury area. The Silver Sensor UHF antenna is a good choice to start with to get just your locals. Looking at your antennaweb results, you are a bit west of Salisbury. That puts you around 80 miles from both the DC and Baltimore stations.

If you have a house where you can mount an antenna high up on the roof and have reasonably good horizons to the northwest, there is a chance that you might be able to get the major DC stations. Three of them are broadcasting at the maximum digital UHF power of 1000 KW. It might only work reliably at night, but a long range UHF antenna such as the AntennasDirect 91XG may get the DC stations. This would be a project with no guarantee of success, but something to think about. Check with the Washington-Baltimore and Salisbury threads in the local HDTV reception forum to see if there is anyone in your area that has had success in receiving the DC or Baltimore stations. There are people who get the DC stations from quite long ways out in Virginia given the high power of the 4 major network stations.

The antenna selection is complicated by the fact that WJLA-DT 7 and WUSA-DT 9 will be switching their digital broadcast back to upper VHF channels 7 & 9 after the analog shutdown in February, 2009. So you would need a upper VHF antenna to get those stations then. Just making a suggestion here about a possibility that you may not have considered.

Thanks for the replies and advice.

I picked up the Silver Sensor and can get all of my locals w/signal strength in the 90's except for the ones on the 351/352 compass orientation.

In some locations almost any antenna will work. Most people find that in general the Terk antennas are overpriced for what they are, or there are much better antennas for the same money. But if it works for you in your location, that's fine.
