Lowest screen height

Hi all.

I ordered my HD1000U and I got the a sheet out to really get a good idea as to where the screen is going to be on the wall. Now I have not bought a screen yet but based on the sheet layout, I know I want 106-108". 100" would work but I think the room is deep enough(19') with seating starting at 10'-12'. I did the room based on 2 rows but I think we will start out with one and really see if it is necessary.

My ceilings are 9' but do to some HVAC issues, the projector will be mounted on a soffit so it will be at 7.625'(91.5") and I figured a 3.5" drop. According the the Mitsu calculator:

108" screen is 14.8" off the floor
106" screen is 16.1" off the floor(leaning towards this size for commonality)
100" screen is 20.1 off the floor

After sitting in a chair at the seating distance, I think this might work but since the screen wall is at the 9ft height, I have a rather large area above the screen. Do you think this will look right? I had planned on having the center channel below the screen angled up but maybe I should wall mount it and have it angle down?

I will be having electric and phone/cable ran this week and then insulation after that so I want to get this right.

Thanks for any thoughts!

You have to decide, of course, but it sounds to me that it would be better to have your screen a bit higher. The rule of thumb that I've heard stated most frequently is to have your eye level about 1/3 of the screen height from the bottom of the screen. E.g. if eye level is 36" above the floor, and your screen height is 53" (about what it is for a 108" diag screen), the rule of thumb says that the bottom of the screen (viewing surface) should be at 36 - 53/3 ~/= 18". For a 100" diag screen, this is 36 - 49/3 ~/= 20".

Thanks for the reply! I am using the drop of the projector as 3.5". This is based on the mounts on ebay that alot of people seem to use. Does anyone ever mount the projector flush with the ceiling? Since the projector will be on a soffit, I could actually place the mount up in the ceiling. This make the hole in the ceiling bigger of course but I might be able to gain 2" I guess this might make it a nightmare to adjust though...

I think we might have the sofit carried around to the screen wall and have can lights put in there as well. This will at least make the screen not appear to be so low.

If I cant get the projector raised at all, could it be angled up and then use the Keystone to correct? I know this would not be ideal but just looking for options.

I think that most of us would avoid using keystone. Even a smaller screen would be better than the distortions introduced by keystoning.

I will be getting my projector and mount tomorrow if all goes well. I will see what the screen looks like. I really think a 106 would be better but the size difference between that and a 100 is not that different.
