I just picked up the hd dvd add on for the 360 today for about 150 after coupons and g/c's. Wow,this thing is awesome on my 4805. I can see a pretty nice difference between this and my bravo d1. Cant wait to upgrade to a true HD pj! Watched King Kong and it was stunning. Actually a decent movie too.

I got one also and now I really feel even more justified going the projector route. It upconverts rather nicely too. Ultraviolet this evening.

Yeah its awesome, what PJ are you using? I can't even imagine what it looks like on a true HD PJ. Next up is a PS3 for Blu Ray,unless I can get a cheap standalone.

Also Infocus, SP5000. For me, it is a dramatic upgrade. My upconverting Toshiba is out the door.

Hi Dan
I also picked up a A1 and hooked it up to my 4805.I admit the Hd dvd's look great thru 1080i ,but my Bravo D1 still looks fantastic thru pixel mapping. In what areas especially do you think the A1 beats the D1 , and are you using hdmi with the A1 ?Thanks

C/mon guys you can't compare a 480i dvd player to the hd-dvd players, it like watching sd programming compared to hd.
You guys must not have a HD feed fed to your PJ's

I can only watch the 15 HD channels on my 92" screen, SD isnt worth it

Haha phussy a D1 compared to a A1?.........no where near a A1, before i got my HD70 and now kicking my ass for selling it....to get money up to buy the PJ

Yeah I got the xbox add hd dvd drive for 200 not the A1. I am using component into my reciever which is a source selector for me also.

Budman, I can see why you chose that particular moniker.Very articulate and reflective response.

I'm sort of in the same boat as the original poster. I used the HD-DVD player (HD-D1) with an Optoma H31 projector. In my case I had to upgrade the DVD player's firmware to 2.0. and use it with 720p where it looks excellent.

Also, and it's something that almost nobody has mentioned, the HD-DVD player makes an incredible 480p player. Compared to my Panasonic 5-disc progressive scan player, it puts out a much nicer image -- better blacks and colors, and the deinterlacer is WAY better. I'm currently using component.

The key for me was upgrading to firmware 2.0 (mine came with 1.3 which is the first of 3 numbers when you check what firmware you have) and using 720p. 1080i was poor on mine due to my projector's poor job of scaling 1080i not because of the HD-DVD player. I believe the 4805 does a better job of scaling 1080i than the H31 does (my X1 does too).
