My main proble is that everyone is looking for reference quality visuals, but movies should sell and be talked about because of how good they are, not how good they look on a disk. This goes for Blu Ray and HD-DVD. Put out the good stuff, hell, it should all look good in hd anyway.

So we're expected to pay full price for movies that'll be in the $7 DVD bargain bin section in 6 months? I don't care if if looks like a 6/5 title the movie is mediocre.

I haven't seen The Covenant...but I do know The Hulk is by far the worst comic book movie ever made.... bar none...but yet....some will buy it for the P/Q.

I know..both sides are getting fed mediocre movies with great PQ. I guess it's up to us to put our foot down.

I agree with you....but people are starved for anything HD to display on their set ups....and a lot of enthusiast will buy most anything in HD....particularly if it looks good.

This same scenario played out with sd dvd when it first arrived....and I suspect we will get mostly sub par titles for the next year........with a few gems thrown in... and even if a few of us don't buy so so titles...its not going to stop studios from continuing the release of mediorce titles.

If the mediocre titles get no support...we will never see a lot of the cream of the crop IMO.

I stopped buying discs strictly for PQ after sitting through Riddick on HD DVD...and the ads for this one didn't exactly sell it for me.

I know this will come as a shock, but I completely agree with you hmurchison. I mean come on Studios, King Kong, KoH, Hulk, Transporter 2, these are such mediocre movies to have the best PQ. How about something like, Gladiator, Independance Day, LotR, etc.

Studios now is the time you need to throw all of us some of the big guns. The survival of Optical HD depends on it.

Your absolutely right....but its the vast majority opinion on the Hulk as a movie...not just mine...and I can assure you I like some movies that are also considered crap by the vast majority.

I'll buy it, I hope I can find it on sale somewhere...

Not sure how you know it's the vast majority opinion... Certainly, there are plenty of people that didn't like it, but there is no evidence they make up the "vast majority". Not even the "vast majority" of critics considered it crap. Rotten Tomatos counted 127 positive reviews against 86 negative (enough to actually give it an overall "Fresh" rating). IMDB user ratings actually fall right in line with the critics.

So, really, the slim majority like it.

"The Covenant", however, is a completely different story....

If you like hot shirtless guys than this movie is for you. Otherwise skip it. The story rivals a WB/CW show and the acting is wooden. I saw this at the theaters and I'm not surprise the PQ will be very good. Thats one of the things it has going for it. At least its a day and date release, everything from the bad to the good should be on blu. What you should do is complain to Sony to stop making mediocore current films like this.

The difference is, it was DVD or VHS. Let's face it, very few had LD. But now the leap from upconverted DVD to HD is not a world apart. It's stupid to buy crap movies because they look or sound good.

Watch this! Next week Crank comes out. $10 says it'll get 5/5 and people will buy for that reason alone. I haven't seen crank but it should be better than the Covenant. It's Renny Harlin for Christ's sakes!!!

Nevermind

I dont mind the B & C level movies its just the price tag that gets me. To look across the rack and see the hitch dvd for 4.99 while its 24.99+ on blu-ray kills me.

That's what I often say: I don't buy crap, even if it's in high definition.

I want the Alien Quadrilogy, Gladiator, Blade Runner, things of that caliber...

Your entitled to your opinion and others will agree with you but I found Hulk more enjoyable than X3. I have the Hulk on HD DVD and have watched it twice now....aside from Elektra and the soon to be released Ghost Rider, I think X3 is the worst Comic Book movie ever made. I hated it...I own it on BD because my wife is obsessed with Hugh Jackman and the Xmen movies....Damn Hugh Jackman

I haven't read one opinion that likes The Covenant. Is there any hot chicks in it atleast? Should I cancel my pre order from Amazon?

That's two reviews stating that this is a terrific disc. The movie isn't as highly regarded so I'll rent it. Always nice to have reference quality discs coming out. Hopefully this will become the norm rather than the exception very soon.

I do, that is why I should have it tomorrow. I thought it was not as bad as many say. Not that it was great cinema but it passes the time just fine + the eye candy doesn't hurt :-)

I like the review and will watch it without expectations. That way no matter what I will have fun!
