Can anyone recommend a receiver that will utilize ps3's full potential. If not how long do I have to wait till such a thing exist?

thanks

A Receiver capable of 1080p and 7.1 LPCM Audio through HDMI pretty much? Onkyo TXSR804, Denon AVR 2807 or the 3807 for more.

Higher end Pioneer Elites will work.

I would go for the Panasonic sa-xr 700 which has no -10 sub problems, passes 1080p and 7.1 PCM via hdmi or hdmi/dvi.
Look at Vanns for a good price.

I would wait for an HDMI 1.3 capable receiver.

Indeed, I would wait for 1.3 and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA decoders built in.

Use optical for now (bitstream 5.1 DD/DTS)

From my understanding receivers like the Panasonic with 1.2a will already playback DTS-MA and DD-HD via HDMI and output them as PCM....and only future advanced colors will matter for 1.3....in which case you need a 1.3 source, display, receiver and future software to really have a need for 1.3.

How about the Yamaha HTR-6090, which I'm looking at very seriously?

I believe HDMI 1.3 is the first spec with the bandwidth needed for DTS and DD lossless encoding.

If its output from the player....the current (a few) receivers will already output up to 7.1 channels of DD-HD or DTS-MA as PCM.
Its all PCM in the end anyway....right?

They can't do 7.1 LPCM through HDMI. Have to use analog for that just like the new Sony's

The Panasonic sa-xr 700 does do 7.1 pcm via HDMI and 1080p over both straight hdmi connections and from hdmi/dvi connections.

It will do this with either the Panny player after it gets its DTS-MA upgrade...or the PS3 after its DTS-MA upgrade.
And I am sure there are at least a couple more out that can also.

No need for hdmi 1.3 in this scenario.

I'm waiting for the new HDMI 1.3 Denons slated to be released this summer.

Get a Pioneer Elite 82 or 84 to get 7.1 channel LPCM via HDMI.

Need some help. I just got the PS3, and I have the video straight (HDMI to DVI) because Westinghouse apprently didn't have the memo that HDMI inputs were going to be pretty crucial when I bought my TV a year and a half ago. ANYWAY, I tried running an optical audio from PS3 to my receiver (BOSE 3-2-1) and and changed the audio output setting on the PS3 to optical audio, but I get no sound at all. Checked to make sure I was on the correct input and I was, so I don't get it. Right now I have the AV (composite) cables that came with the PS3 running the audio. Sounds okay, but it doesn't make sense to me why the optical wouldn't work with the exact same setup. Anyone know what I'm missing? Thanks.

Make sure under the BD/DVD settings that audio via optical is set to Bitstream.

Make sure when you choose Optical in the audio section, that you go to manual and check all signals your receiver can handle.

BD/DVD is set to Bitstream, when I go to audio settings I select Dolby and DTS, but it won't let me uncheck Linear; is that interfering with something. Either way, still nothing.
