Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

I just saw that the trailer for this film was posted. Revoke my nerd card now but I didn't read Silver Surfer. I thought he was a good guy? or at least tended toward the good side. Why would F4 be fighting him? Isn't SilverSurfer's main foe Galacticus?

Disclaimer: While growing up, I read Ironman, Uncanny Xmen, and some Spidey so Silver Surfer and F4 never really did it for me. I did enjoy the first F4 movie and thought it was pretty entertaining in a popcorn flick sort of way.

Silver Surfer kind of worked for Galactus. He found planets without life for the big bastard to eat. At first the FF and SS were foes, so this film will hopefully show that in a form that isn't complete suck.
The Silver Surfer did work for Galactus. At least till he was able to break free of Galactus.

I did see the F4 trailer and they did unfortuneately depict SS as an enemy.
If i remember correctly, the Silver Surfer was deemed as a non-good guy because he worked for Galactus, but the FF realized what his intent was..and that SS wanted to save the earth which then later the FF & SS became friends.

It'd be awesome to see Galactus on the big screen! I just hope they don't make Norrin Rad a bad guy.

SS has "phasing" powers? That's a new one to me.

Thanks for the info guys... I just checked out wikipedia (don't you just love that site?) anyway how in the heck is the FF supposed to defeat the "Power Cosmic" equipped SS? This movie should've been the FF & SS versus Galacticus with the best quality CGI available.

Anyone know if the short lived series that was on FOX ever going to make it to DVD? I thought it was cool the way they made it look like Jack Kirby's artwork.

They should of added Firelord to the cast. It would have been a sight to see SS and Firelord tag team against the FF since they were both Galactus' heralds.

hmmm the Silver Surfer. This is from total memory. First of all his name is Norrin Rand (or some such, but like I said this is from total memory). He was the greatest scientist of a super advanced world (maybe the most advanced in the Marvel Universe), but even they could not stop this "plague like thingy) from killing them
-- OR--

He was the greatest scientist of a super advanced world (maybe the most advanced in the Marvel Universe) but they could not stop Galactus*. Thus he made a deal with the Devil & in return Galactus would spare his world (which he later welched on, I think).

Any way thus SS was litteraly created by the Hand of Galactus. As the SS, Norrin rode the Power Cosmic for what seemed like an eternity until of course he found hte good ole' Earth & thus our pending 2nd movie franchise entry.

Now if they stick with the Marvel story as written then is is not so much as a fight against the FF per se, but a moral thingamajob against Mr. Fantastic in particular. Now this could be the start of a SS movie franchise of his own, because Reed Richards is gonna make (again, this is the original Marvel story) one of the most Fantastic (sorry) Statements Ever in the Marvel Universe at the end of this movie.

Also, I hope this is NOT like the Star Trek franchise, where you have to keep all the Treks separate, because the Incredible Hulk has a major, major, major role in this story. Suffice it to say, seeing a realistic rendition of the Hulk bending the Surfers' board would be worth the price of admission alone, IMHO.

I have been waiting since like 1980 something for this movie. I will be able to die a happy man

* Galactus in the Marvel Universe is not so much a being, but rather a quasi-mystical force, like say Death or Gea. He/it is bound to the Multiverse in such a way, that if his role of World-Eater went unfulfilled (sorry) then all kinds of things would be thrown out of wack

This would not be correct Canon (I can't believe I'm going there) The SS was the first & greatest of the Heralds & I seem to remeber him wanting to have no contact with Galactus after he left. This was by mutual agreement of both the SS & Galactus. Actually now that I think about it, I think he did team up with the girl, Frankie Raye (sic) but she "double-teamed" the SS or something like that.

SS will not be a villain during the entire film according to those who have read the script.

I know that. I've read and collected comics since 1973 and know the FF and SS history quite well. I was just saying that it would be cool to see Johnny fight Firelord. Since creative license is always taken when translating to one medium to another , why not add Firelord?

Ah I see, I misunderstood.

I watched the clip last week, but it wasn't enough to make me thrilled or disappointed about the new movie.

They completely blew the last movie, but I'm willing to look past all of that.

The clip was neat, in that it showed an actual sequence from the movie, but I'm wondering what else we can expect. I've read that their horrendous version of Dr. Doom will be back (ugh!). Will we see Galactus? If so, will he actually be Galactus? (Off topic, but when I saw the commercial for the new Marvel video game, I was convinced that Galactus can be done properly - that was an awe inspiring moment.)

I would love to see an actual, true treatment of the FF vs. Galactus (as opposed to what they did with Dr. Doom), so I am holding out hope. We'll see this summer.

I will see it, watch it, and most likely, buy it. But I just wish they would follow the proper script. I'm not waiting for a made up version. I want THE version done right and in HD. YES a TRUE treatment. When these fancy directors see this? Or am I in the minority?

I can't believe anyone is excited about a 2nd FF movie. The absolutley horrible..and I mean horrible miscasting (besides Michael C as the Thing) combined with yet another ultra-lame hollywood "summer blockbuster" script fills me with utter dread.

But...but..there would be a few things that would make me at least raise an apprehensive eyebrow...Thanos or The Skrulls. Maybe.

Instead we get....The Silver Surfer. Yeah.....yeah thats great. Maybe Part 3 will feature Kang The Conquorer! GRRRRRR! :P

I guess they are trying hard to out-lame Daredevil?
Hmmm...I actually liked the first one and based on the trailer I'm looking forward to the second.

They've been trying to develop a SS movie for 20 years. At first the technology wasn't there and then the script went through years of development hell. With the millions of dollars already invested there's no surprise that now that FF is going as a franchise they'd merge the SS project into it.

That's all fine & dandy, but the board appears too small. Both in length & width. Also I see they payed an "homage" of sorts to the original Canon, however it should have been Bruce Banner who fell & not Johnny Storm.

I watched it on my 42A10 via streaming from my 360. The SS CGI did not look too impressive, but I'm sure that was due to the quality of this SD clip.

wonder if Joe Satriani will be involved with the music?

That site won't open on my computer; it says it's been "corrupted" and recommends cancelling the download. Spyware maybe?

I hope the movie will be about more than JUST that transformation.

Ahhhh, I almost ejaculated watching that teaser trailer. I'm in my 40's and me an my older bother had 100's of FF and SS magz back in the Glory days of Marvel comics. And this trailer captures the sprite of the Fantastic Four vs Silver Surfer comics I remember reading as a kid. So all of you youngsters that only know superheros from Saturday morning TV and movies. Well, you are not going to bring me down.

I spend all my extra money over the years on my Media Room aka poor-man's Home Theater. So I go to very few movies. I think I gone to maybe 4 movies since the blockbuster Titanic. "Wife". But I going to be first in line for this one.

In my Best Superman II voice................... THIS IS GOING TO BE GOOD !!!

I remember reading that giant Fantastic Four issue (back in the day) about Galactus' first appearance (reprint?). SS was a servant to Galactus, if memory serves. Gally later banished him to earth by a force-field for acts of treason.

Pick THIS one up if you get the chance. Essential reading.

I dunno I got the link from another site and I've seen it a few times and have passed it on to another site and it worked there.

If you are thinking of that big, book bound, graphic novel, it was actually about the SS. It's the one that starts on page 1 in the first panel; BEHOLD, THE HAND OF GALACTUS...

I don't think I saw this mentioned in this thread, for those interested the trailer is available on Apples Quicktime site in high-def.

I just got my lazy ass up and watched the trailer finally. I enjoyed the first movie as a fun popcorn flick, but this baby. Oh my god, I almost had multiple orgasms watching that trailer in HD. I watched it like 4 times in a row . Now I can't wait to see SS on the big screen.
