Need some help Problem with sound on new Sony Dvp-Ns75H

Alright for Christmas I have just gotten a 32 inch Hp LCD tv and a sony dvp-n575h upscale dvd player. I seem to be having an issue with the sound when trying to use it. I have it hooked up with an hdmi cable I order from monoprice and the video is fine. However the only sound I get is a loud static like noise. I have tried both HDMI ports on my tv and more than one dvd with the same results. It may not be the dvd player as I have hooked it up through regular rca cables (red white and yellow) and sound is fine. Any idea why it is doing this? Could it just be a bad cable or is it the dvd player or worse the tv?

The problem seems to only happen some of the time. I was able to unplug the dvd player and get the sound to work properly out of the dvd player. When I turned it off and went back this morning the player was back to making the hissing noise

I have also discovered that it will mess up if I switch sources on my tv. It can be working fine and when I switch back to tv, and then go back to the dvd it is messed up. Could this be because of the tv?

This is the only output I have to test. I am swapping the player out for another brand today at bestbuy and if I still have the problem I will test the cable next, and finally the tv.

Any suggestions on what to get in place of the sony, how is the samsung?
