Repair or replace ?

Thread Starter
I have a pair of AR11 speakers by Acoustic Research. The woofers have rotted with age. replacing the pair of woofers would cost about $280. As much as I have liked them that seems a bit steep to rehab some old speakers. I have listened to and liked Bowers and Wilkins 603, Polk RTi10 and the Klipsch FR-62. If I decide to repair the AR11 speakers how can I be sure that I am ordering quality replacement woofers?

Have you checked repairing them? http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....ound&sm=1&so=1

This sounds to me like an excellent excuse to buy some new speakers, which is always quite enjoyable in its own right.

Surrounds can be easily replaced if that's the only issue with the speakers. If the speaker cones are cracked or otherwise messed up you may be better off just buying new speakers. If you do, listen to as many as possible both above and below your price range to get a feel for what is out there. I would not get caught up in all the hype and BS of a particular brand i.e. kevlar drivers and golfball dimples on the ports. Buy what you like.
