Frustration with new HD70

I've been reading this forum for quite a while and I'm sorry my first post has to be a request for help!

I've had my HD70 about a month and a half and have been super frustrated by it's performance. At times the picture is stunning, other times the picture is so fuzzy it's almost unwatchable. I'm probably going to call Optoma tomorrow, but wanted to see if anyone may have some suggestions.

I have a DirecTV RCA DTC210 HD receiver connected via HDMI/DVI and a Panasonic CP72 DVD player connected via component. Both sources have been very good and very bad. The PJ is ceiling mounted and displayed on a 92" Dalite High Contrast Matte White screen. I've calibrated the PJ using AVIA and applied some of the "tweaks" I read from the thread here.

Was watching Superman Returns on DVD last night and the picture was so blurry it was almost unwatchable. About halfway through the movie, I realized the picture had cleared up and was suddenly awesome! I even rewinded the movie and some of the fuzzy scenes I viewed earlier were now clear. Then I turned on the football game in HD and again, a stunning picture.

A while later back to blur. Very frustrating. The change appears to be slow and subtitle, then suddenly you realize, everything looks a bit off. Hidef will look like a poor quality DVD and a DVD becomes almost unwatchable.

There appears to be little rhyme or reason as to when it happens. I tried different cables, inputs (DVI, component, and even VGA) and even swapped out my DVD player with no improvement. I don't have another HD receiver to swap, but I doubt it would make a difference.

Is my unit just defective or is there something more I can do.

Thanks everyone,
Bill

Call Optoma, mines going back Monday for exchange, i been having bulb issues were the screen get's darker, once it went black and the lamp light has been on.
Rebooted it works fine, also i been waiting 2+ months for a replacement remote, no go there either on backorder.
Call 1-408-456-3861 you will be in a direct call with Robert S, he has been Excellent as other's there dont give a crap.
I've noticed my problems are when i leave it on standby mode instead of turning off the power completely.

See now I haven't turned mine off in like a month and a half...and I haven't had any issues at all..I use every input but composite. I did have a black screen for the first time last night but it was confirmed to be one of thequirks of the d1 (rebooting d1 solved the issue). just saying I don't think leaving it plugged in is the cause.

augie if i leave it in standby when it boots the lamp wont light, after 20 seconds it then restarts itself then the lamp lights normally...sometimes.
If i power off my power strip the HD70 is connected too it works fine, i got a lemon and getting a new one once the Giants and Pat's game are over Sunday.
My remote has a 1-2' range i have to stand in front of the IR sensor, it's a pain to calibrate holding your arm up the whole time.
Maybe when i get my new one i'll sell it and get the HD1000.

Thanks Bud-man! I'll give him a call today. How does their warranty service work? I couldn't find much info on the Optoma website. I know I'll have to send it back, but will I have to wait for them to repair it or will they send me a replacement? I've only had it a little over 30 days... I would like to think they would simply replace it.

They told me as fast as you ship it they will send a replacement back 2 day air, you have to call and get a RMA # first, give them a call in a hour or so, west coast time.
Robert actually told me to trace the tracking and once it said it was delivered he would personally ship me a new one out that day.
I still have a DV10 to use if need be.
