It sure is Elliot, but you know what you started here ..

I've read something about a VPL-VW25 project that then was canceled because of the new JVC. Then a read about VPL-VW75 (30-40K:1 iris) to compete properly.
Or is it about the rumored Diamond?

Sony Translation: We are surprised by the JVC. We need to pretend that we have a competing product Real Soon Now. Our engineers are waiting to take a JVC apart to find out what we need to do.

I think it's lame to post something like this....

sorry!! Couldn't resist! If you don't know what I'm talking about go look at the JVC RS1 thread.
Ah, this must be the Black Pearl I've been hearing about.

I bet Sony has had a new SXRD panel in the wings for some time now. I
attended a SID Chapter meeting at Sony San Diego about a year and a half
ago and was told by a Sony Physicist that they were already working on the next
gen SXRD panel at that time. I bet they have been holding out milking the
.61 in. SXRD panel and now JVC has forced them to cut loose with the new panel...

Now thats funny

What i can tell you (i think) is its code name is officially Emerald.
Will this demo occur before the 8th?
Emerald? I guess it is the VPL-VW75 then...
I remember reading something about 15k without the iris, just like the JVC. We'll see...

Edit: And it said something about PS3 connectivity, don't remember what exactly.

why ? isn't emerald a cheaper gem stone than ruby ? I say it's the VW25....
No, not VW25, since VW50 just came out ... No point to kill your star player right away ...

Must be something juicier, like a home-use version of GLV, Grating Light Valve, which Sony demoed 2, 3 years ago.

Or Laser SXRD as technology demo (but maybe not real product yet, not until CEDIA 07 ...)
I say it'll be called the Zirconia - 720p SXRD for $2K.
Emeralds are more valueable than rubies, (go to Tiffany.com if you don't believe me) so this could be very interesting. I think we are looking at the VW150 or VW200 here. Sony's response to the HD1, lets just hope they improve the ANSI contrast.
Or... It could just be shaped octagonally
post #19 of 91
Now the tables are turned. Very funny! Who can recall reading in the JVC RS1 threads posts like:

"Sony Pearl is an excellent projector here today!"
"This hyped JVC product is vaporware."
" Why wait, buy today!"

So like where are these unbiased posters now when you really need them?
Ruby II then? This was talked about before Cedia last year.

Actually the pristinest rubies are the most expensive stones on earth, they are more precious than diamonds. Of course there are a lot of lesser quality rubies around (look on ebay).
I'm a saphire man myself or a nice garnet - oh wait, we aren't in a jewelry forum here - take off those skirts!

Actually, I love progress and fully expected Sony to be working on a new PJ to replace the Ruby. Unlike many here, I'm buying my FIRST PJ in March and that will be the RS1 unless something is available by then that bests it. (Very unlikely) For me the decision is easy this time - no PJ and wait or RS1 today. That's a pretty easy decision! Now when it comes time to upgrade...THAT'S when it gets tougher...
Diamond was probably something that was goint to replace the Ruby but the design aged and was scrapped. Still it would make sense for Sony to come out with a projector above Pearl although with new specifications compared to the earlier rumored Diamond. In a week we will know if there is anything new sxrd style on the horizon.

Some fancy color diamonds are the most expensive stones per carat, to be precise.
Another truly idiotic thread. Sony will introduce a new SXRD projector at Cedia.
BTW. There is no such thing as a cheap "LED" projector. There will be a cheap "LCD" projector shown behind closed doors to replace the current 60. The Sony dealer show is the end of Feb in Las vegas. It also is not a FP launch show. DATS CEDIA.

Why not?

There are reasonably priced LED RPTVs, so it's only a matter of time before they (and lasers) make their way to FPs. Just thought it would be another year or two, that's all,

Nick
Why not? Because. That's why!
Who cares about names, give me the specs.
I will say...
3 SXRD panels
2000 lumens with eco. mode.
20.000 CR on/off 40.000 with Iris on
better vp with stretch mode for 2.35. 1 ar
with optional anamorphic lens.
wireless connectivity to pair with next gen. BD player. etc.....
