I received The Camp Cuddly Power Tool Massacre today

I received Camp Cuddly Pines Power Tool Massacre today.

Disapointed is about the only way to put it. I haven't been able to confirm it but I believe we may have found the first use of Red Laser HD-DVD in the retail market. Its 2 hrs long but it is using a 720P VC-1 encode and no sound options outside the default 5.1 and no extras. The Bottom of the Disc is goldish which makes me think DL-DVD, but the Disc (Disc 2) inscribed as a DVD-9 looks more silver like a HD-DVD or a DVD-5 so maybe my ability to discern the disc type by look is no longer as trust worthy.

Its 4 Discs (the rest are standard DVDs) but one is a sample (haven't looked at the extras or the sampler yet).

As for the Picture its soft though a lot but their are some good sharp almost 3d pop points, but either its bad make up or their seems to be a good portion of posterization and banding.
I have only played it through the Xbox add-on and not on a A1. I was also outputing 1080I on the Xbox so it might of been doing some kind of upconvert on that which might be causing what I am seeing.

This is definitely not a case like the Pirates HD (not HD-DVD) DVD it is a Real HD-DVD but I am not quite sure its worth the $50.

Its not horrible but really their is no where to go but up.

Edited the name of the thread and first sentence to include the Pines part of the title.

Great report, sorry to hear all those things though. I was about to pull the trigger and get it but now I may hold off. I wish Bikini Destinations: Triple Fantasy Unrated would come out sometime. Hopefully, we'll hear from Magnolia, BCI, and others at CES - as to why all their cool stuff was delayed...

In case anybody else doesn't know what in the wild world of sports the OP is talking about I looked it up. He is referring to an adult film starring Katie Morgan.

I would also forgot to mention that I thought this was a Digital Playground movie (like the one who made Pirates) but it is actually Vivid, who as a big company seems to not care about the look of their videos just who are in them.

I don't want to sound like a porn guru but I will admit I have watched a few, and the vivid stuff almost always look worse then then even the lowest grade no name studio release like Banging them hard 28 (don't know if this actually exists but probably does).

That said its a great looking porn for the most part, the outdoor daylight scenes look great better then any of their DVDs ever will, I just think there is more left on the table then was picked up and used.

Topweasel, I ordered this about an hour before reading your post, then cancelled after reading it. I'm sure it is worth checking out, but not for 50 bucks, based on your post. Thanks for the info.
Topweasel, would you be willing to sell this one off??? the thought being we could maybe pass it around by selling it off after each person has had a chance to check it out and see for himself what he thinks about the quality of the video without anyone losing a bunch on a disc they really don't want. Even if one lost 6~8 bucks on it thats no more than most rentals...Everyone please reply and we'll see what kind of interest this idea has....Thanks, Hardvark

Hardvark Great idea. PM later if your still interested. Because I am sure most people here are for quality and it would be a shame if several people paid that much for it and ended up with the same feelings I have for it. I am just happy that I got to be the first person to post about it. Seems no one in my area likes to sell movies early.

Go ahead, shell out the cash. Consider it a contribution to a good and worthy cause.
I just lended my support by ordering a copy.

anybody else saw this yet?

I would set your HD DVD player to output 720p when playing native 720p discs. It will improve the image quality.
No wonder it sucks (pun intended), if it's made by Vivid... Their DVDs never looked any better than VHS to me. Not only that but most of their stuff has one decent scene with one good looking woman and all the other protagonists are ugly as hell.

If I'm going to watch porn in hi-def, the picture and people need to look good. Save your money, that Vivid stuff is the Battlefield Earth of porn...

This is a Wicked Pictures release, not Vivid, and it like all HD-DVD XXX titles will alll be 720P. It does have DD+. We will have the first mainstream review on Digital Audio Video.com tomorrow of this title.

Damnit your right it does say wicked, how did miss that. I guess I might have always thought they were the same company because their movies look exactly the same.

Question though. Is this a Red Laser HD-DVD like I think it is?
No this is a real blue laser HD-DVD, the first XXX title. Digital Playground has four being released shortly.

Just wondering because the bottom of the disc is a goldish color that usually related to Dual layer DVDs.
It is a single-layer HD-DVD, and it is not even using the full 15GB of storage.

I kind of Figured that with the 720P transfer. I just figured that with Just the 720P VC-1 and a single 5.1 DD soundtrack and no extras that they may have been able to fit it on a DL-DVD. None of the HD-DVDs I have quite have the look of a disc that this one has.

I'll plead ignorance here. Why must all HD-DVD XXX titles be 720p? Limitation of the cameras? Seriously, I'm clueless on this one.

A little of both, I don't know how much of that is true or just a blanket statement. Most stuff is recorded using pro-sumer devices and for capacity reason is probably recorded in 720P. But I really think movies like Pirates is probably 1080P.

But if Pirates is 720P then he is probably right. Also just accured to me some of these might being using straight re-encodes of the WMP9 HD versions which again for capacity reasons (size limit of DVD) where mostly 720P, though this implies future movies might be 1080.

Hopefully he is wrong and Pirates will be 1080.

I am confused as well met-art has some nice HD stuff. I don;t know if it is 720p or 1080i.
