Should I buy the Toshiba HD-A2?

Thread Starter
I'm really thinking of getting a Toshiba HD-A2 but I'm not sure if it will be worth it. My other option would be the new Oppo DV-981HD. I have a 40" Sony LCD TV (KDL40S2000) which does display 1080i/720P.

With the screen size only being 40", will I see any difference between the two players?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks....

Do you want it? Can you afford it? If yes to both then I'd say yes, buy it. I think you would see a difference.

I say go for it. I am watching my HD-A1 on a Sony 40'' XBR1 LCD, similar to yours, and I see a huge difference.

I'm renovating my living room, so I brought in the HD-A2 to my bedroom and it's hooked up to my 23" Samsung LCD and it's phenominal. So yes, get the HD-A2 if you can.

In our showroom we have an A2 feeding a 32" LCD HDTV and everyone is amazed at the image quality. We sell a ton of 32" HDTVs and A2s just because of this demo.

I was going to purchase either the A2 or XA2 from Robert of Value Electronics today but the news just broke about a possible announcemnet from LG about a Dual Blu-Ray-HD-DVD player that they are working on. I am holding off on the Tosh until I hear what LG has to say about the Dual Player at CES starting next week.

^ Ours is connected to a basic entry level Toshiba 32HLC56 and the image quality is absolutely terrific.
