1080p (movies?) on a 720p display

Not sure if this question should be here or somewhere else. This isn't hd-dvd or blue specific.
But my general question is , is highdef movies worth it on a 720p display?
Or will an upconverting dvd player be sufficient for now?

I have a 720p mits 52725 and am trying to determine if i would gain much by getting a new high definition dvd player (either blueray or hd-dvd).
Any input would be appreciated, especially from those users that have a 720p display and some kind of 1080p source.

Yes it's worth it, and no it probably doesn't belong here as there won't be broadcast 1080p movies for a long time, if ever.
