cool thanks for the info. according to news articles today/yesterday, it looks like this is going to be pushed back a little to march.

also, any estimates on price? (i'm afraid to hear answers to this)

does nvidia have anything in the works?

My 8800gtx is certainly dual link. It has 2 dual-link dvi ports actually, i use it to power my 3007. Got mine from evga and it says HDCP capable right on the box, nice try but thanks for the wrong information.

Any GeForce 7600 or above can support Dual DVI at 2560X1600. I use a totally silent passively cooled XFX 7950GT 512MB that has two HDCP-enabled Dual Link DVI ports.

Not a bad choice, as you can see from these tests, the 7950GT almost equals the 8800GTX performance on HD-DVD playback, while costing less than $300:

Think "silent" for HTPC. The 8800 GPUs are far from silent.

I think hes refering to the fact that its been stated elsewhere that these current cards when playing hdcp material will only work in single link mode.

hdcp on the box does not imply that hdcp is supported over dual link. most cards that list hdcp only support it through single link dvi connections. i have a radeon x1900gt that has two 2560x1600 dual-link ports, but it only supports hdcp over single-link dvi connections. it says hdcp on the box.

does anyone have a link to documentation stating specifically that hdcp is supported over dual-link dvi for either 8800?

have you tried hdcp content over dvi @ 2560x1600 with this card?

After looking into it a little further, at this point i am not totally sure i can view HDCP over dual link. I am highly dissapointed in this fact. Although i do have to mention, that watching quicktime 1080p movie trailers with the 8800 gtx look absolutely amazing.

Nope, my Westinghouse display is only 1920X1080.

From Nvidia Customer Support:
Quote:

The Dell 3007WFP and Hewlett Packard LP3065 30" LCD monitors require a graphics card with a dual-link DVI port to drive the ultra high native resolution of 2560x1600 which these monitors support. With the current family of NVIDIA Geforce 8 & 7 series HDCP capable GPU's, playback of HDCP content is limited to single-link DVI connection only. HDCP is disabled over a dual-link DVI connection. The highest resolution the Dell 30" 3007WFP supports in single-link DVI mode is 1280x800 and therefore this is the highest resolution which HDCP playback is supported in single-link DVI mode on current Geforce 8 &7 series HDCP capable GPU's. On other 3rd party displays with a native resolutions of 1920x1200 and below, the graphics card interfaces with the monitor over a single-link DVI connection. In this case, playback of content protected Blu-Ray and HD-DVD movies is possible on HDCP capable Geforce 8& 7 series GPU's.

Ah, that res is single-link

My friend tried with the Dell 30", and the Xbox360 HD-DVD player; only gave him 1280x800. The R600 will have DUAL link HDCP.

hdmi 1.3 supports 2560*1440 so if cards are released with hdmi 1.3 compatability they will do the trick.
