Do you watch the Extras on a movie?

I'm curious as to how many people even watch the extra stuff that is included on an HD DVD or BR movie? Do you watch all of it or some of it, or none at all? Does it depend on what the extras are?

For me it depends on what Extras are included and whether or not I really liked the movie. I probably pass on about 50% of the Extras that are included.

If there is a part of the movie that I think is really cool and the extra talks about that part, then I will watch it. But about %90 of the time I just watch the movie.

It depends on the movie and what kind of extras. For a movie that I really love, like the LOTR trilogy, I'll watch the extras. But for most movies, I rarely look at the extras.

I voted depends on the movie. I rarely watch bonus features on movies; it really has to be a movie that I truly enjoy. I just want the best picture and sound. Bonus features do not mean much to me.

I voted that it depends what the extras are.

I do like watching deleted seens and outakes.

Alternate endings can also be real interesting.

I hae never listened to commentary since the usual Suspects LD, just to see what it would be like.

I voted for "depends on the movie", but I do watch them on most movies. I don't watch them only if I really did not like the movie. I think the extras give you a greater appreciation of the movie and, in some cases, help you to better understand it, especially if the story has a history preceeding the movie itself. The extras are another incentive to purchasing the disc instead of just watching it on cable.

EDIT: Just want to add that the extras I am interested in and watch are the traditional ones like deleted scenes, making-of, alternate endings, and sometimes audio commentary. I have no real interest in the new ones like IME and U-Control. They are just a waste of space and bandwidth, IMO, although I can see how they are important from a marketing perspective and how maybe the younger generation and gamers might like them.

I have not watched a extra on a movie in 2 years. I just never have the time to watch them. By the time the movie is over it's late and I just end up going to bed or turning off the tv at that time and never get back to the special features.

Movie extras are the biggest waste of space/time/money since Chia Pets and/or sea monkies.

I've been trying to watch all the extras on my HD movies. Used to rarely watch them and plan to watch them at some point but would never get around to it. Lately, I've been leaving the disc in the player till I'm 100% done with it. Always liked "making of" documentaries

I'd rather the studios would use the space for improved bitrate or soundtrack.

I watch just about all of them. I actually bought World Trade Center specifically to see the making of & listen to Herr Stone. I did not even want to watch the movie, until after the compelling real life story was revealed in the extras. I am totally against the value-added schema, but for some reason I just love to know the behind the scenes stuff. C'est la Vie!

I think that just about sums it up for me, as well.

Depends on the movie: Harry Potter - Yes
Ant Bully - No

No.

Depends on the movie. But I like all kinds of extras. Commentaries, documentaries(especially retrospective ones for older films and TV shows), deleted scenes, alternate endings, and trailers(STOP LEAVING THEM OFF, UNIVERSAL!!! ).

That's one of several reasons I prefer HD-DVD to Blu-ray. Extras are much more prevelant. Ironic considering Blu-ray often has 20 more GB to work with.

Extras are one big factor in my purchasing decision.

If the extras are numerous and reportedly good, then I'm more inclined to buy.
If there are no extras, then I'm more inclined to rent.

Usually the times I buy a movie without many/any extras is when it's an absolute must-have movie or a movie that's impossible to find otherwise.

P.S. As for the time for the extras... Sometimes I'll listen to a commentary while cooking dinner or doing housework or online banking or whatever. I don't necessarily actually sit there and watch the movie while listening to the commentary.

With LOTR you need a whole day just to get through the Extras. I know I usually waited a day to see the extras for that movie since my butt was to numb after sitting through the EE.

Mostly for extras I like to see deleted scenes and Gag reels or the filming locations(that doesn't seem to be movies much). With the exception of LOTR and Gladiator there are few movies I will watch all the extras for. My wife likes to watch the movie trailers for the movie after we watched it already. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

BTW: Mission Impossible: III - Cool PIP format for the commentary, but Tom Cruise and that director are EXTREMELY irritating to listen to.

It depends on what the extras are. I always like to see deleted scenes, since sometimes they explain a part of the movie a bit more.

No. I barely find enough time to watch movies these days, let alone sit around watching a bunch of boring extras.

Watching the movie in HD is good enough for me.

Love the extras. Especially the currently HD DVD exclusive IME, Picture-in-Picture video commentaries. They are amazing and some of the coolest extras that anyone could have provided! I thought the one for MI:III was actually more entertaining to watch then the movie itself!

Sure I want the Best Picture/Sound but I also want to know MORE about it!
It really depends on the extras itself and the bigger problem for me is if i have the time to view them. I barely have time to see a movie in the first place now and days (100+ sd-dvd movies still need a viewing) Yet i do try to occasional time to see what it took to make some of my favourite scnes every now and then

I voted yes, but also depends on the movie and depends on the extras, since multiple votes were enabled and that's how I feel about it.

Some people just want to be entertained with the best picture and sound, while others are also fascinated by the movie making process and what goes into it. I personally fall into the latter category. Robert Rodriguez' 5-minute film schools and 5-minute cooking schools on his DVD releases are always enjoyable for me. I also enjoy the Harry Potter DVD extras, but I'm an official Potter nerd. I'm not only reading through my Bible again this year, but The Leaky Cauldron is doing a month long look at each of the published books, and I've decided to participate.

On other discs, I'm not so enthusiastic. And now with my move into HD content, I tend to only watch if they're in HD, which has been very sparse on the BD side of things. I haven't watched enough HD-DVD's yet to even get into extras, but I'm hoping to fix that soon.

never, not once

i am very selective on the extras (usually gag reels). that said I activate ucontrol when its avaliable. ucontrol is awesome (even compared to ime because i havent found a way to not show all ime events if it didnt auto play each one like ucontrol i would like it). And by ucontrol i mean the king kong version of it not like accepted (i think) where ucontrol was the directors commentary. I really like little videos throughout the movie showing how stuff was done, little insights, etc and I dont have to play them and when I do play them rewind 30 secs and just watch it w/o ucontrol to see it "in action".

I pretty much agree with everyone else that the only extras that I have completely watched all the way through are those for gladiator and LOTR trilogy, and thats it. All other movies I only watch deleted scenes, alternate endings, and that is if the movie was even good to begin with, but usually I just turn off the movie because extras are usually a waste of time.

Yes. I may not watch all of them, but I always watch some of them. I want them to be on there, except of course when the director doesn't want them (Woody Allen's films for example). As long as they aren't HD, they aren't taking up much space. (For HD extras, I prefer a separate disc for them so they don't take away space from the film.)

That said, there are good and bad extras. Good extras are informative and entertaining, while bad extras are a waste of space. Then again, it's hard to draw the line as to what is good and bad, and for whom. I've bemoaned the more recent Disney DVDs with stupid "games" and Disney Channel material, but who am I to say they shouldn't be on there when kids will enjoy them?
