Can older CRT be used with new digital technology

I have been reading your posts and threads for a long time but never had the courage to actually post one. I've learnd alot from you gentlemen and I thank you for that. But now technology is starting to pass by me and I need your expertise. My question is can I use a Vidikron vph 40hd with a Faroudja 2200 to play Hd DVD players. I think the most it will display is at 1080i.

I don't think that Faroudja unit does any transcoding (component to vga) or has a dvi input. You would most likely just need to buy a transcoder which converts component or dvi into VGA. THen you could plug into your projector directly...and it will be a great day!

Transcoders can usually be found for about $150 -$250 used, and in some cases new!

Here's a link to an excellent transcoder and it works VERY well at 1080i using a Toshiba HDDVD player .

Do you mean to tell me that I can bypass the faroudja altogether and use a high definition source such as blue ray or hd dvd with this type projector? I thought that the faroudja is needed to better enhance picture quality. The Faroudja has inputs for component(RCA) and HDTV (D15M) outputs of RGBHV in (D15F) and RGBHV in (BNC). I'm at a crossroads here should I junk the vidikron for lets says the Ruby or can I still use this relec for todays technology. If someone can please explain how I can incorporate this display I would be grateful.

I'm not up on the early Vidikron's, so I don't know what this PJ really is (do you?). But it has 7" ES focus tubes. Yes you can go 1080i direct from a high def source through a transcoder. A 7" machine is going to be a little soft, but if your tubes are in great shape, the pic will look good.

Use the Crescendo System's tcoder recomended. It is one of the best you can get.

No reason why not . Kim's transcoder also is available with an adjustable gamma circuit . Works great with my Barco 808 and 1209s . Just input a component signal and the transcoder outputs RGBHV to the projector .

Post a pix of your set, but I think that's the Vidikron made set, not the Electrohome ECP based chassis.

WE custom make a DVI and HDMI card for Barco along with our other mods seperate.

This card is not just a transcoder or a external type box. We improve the BW of the projectors back end and engineer the firmware to match your projector. The result according to customers is the best picture their projector has ever had.

Not every thread exists for you to advertise in Greg.

The guy has a 7" ES Vidikron, exactly how does this help him?
