DVD players that remove "operation not permitted"

Does anyone know of any DVD players (through remote control hack or otherwise) that allow you to skip over parts of DVDs that normally won't let you (usually at the beginning, the FBI warning, sometimes previews, or just general intro crap that I don't care about.)?

I'm looking for one that preferrably outputs in 1080i through HDMI as well, but I'm curious in general.

Sorry if this is covered somewhere, I thought there was a keyword that described this feature, but I couldn't come up with what it is (I ran into this a few years ago and thought it had a special name, but never acted on the player I found).

Thanks, I ordered an oppo player, I'm anxious to give it a shot. I've got a couple of DVDs my kids watch that have _really_ aggravating previews you can't skip.

There is another easy solution. DVDShrink will allow you to remove every flag from any DVD.

I don't feel like copying every DVD I buy just to remove Uop flags. It's also annoying when I rent a movie and have to deal with the BS.

Though I do appreciate the irony that DVD manufacturers encourage copying their stuff by allowing the copy to be more valuable than the original version.

Oh, I wouldn't say that DVD manufacturers are happy that there is software out there that allows Joe Q. Public to hack their IP. They had a very specific reason why the UOP "feature" was included in the original DVD spec: to make you watch the content in the way they want you to.

That being said, anyone got a hack to remove this from a Panny DVD-S77?

Does the momitsu with upgradable firmware do this?

Yeah, I've already been through that thread but never got a solid confirmation if the code for the 97 would work on the 77 as well. The danger of flashing new code into a player is that if it glitches, some players (not all but some) will turn into bricks. I would rather avoid this scenario.

It won't.

I suppose you could sell the S77 and buy an S97 instead as there are firmware updates available for the S97. Or, get the S52 which also has hacked firmware. However, as you've probably seen from the S52 owener's thread, getting updated firmware for the S52 (or S97) can be quite a challenge.

the Helios H4000 does this. hdmi AND component video output at 1080i. no need for firmware. just make sure that the "Smartplay" feature is set to on in setup.
I put in a DVD and it skip all the garbage and plays the movie immediately within seconds.

Does the 970 also have this available?

No, although I believe all the Oppos have a "direct play" feature. Press stop as soon as you can when the disk has loaded and then "menu" and it skips the intro features. This works for me sometimes on the 981, but not always.
