Divx/Xvid playback on Faroudja based upscaling dvd players and macroblocking

Basically what I am wondering is how much does the quality of the movie (divx/xvid Vs. DVD quality) contributes to the marcoblocking issues that appear on Faroudja based upscaling dvd players (like the Oppo DV-981HD)??

The DivX playback quality on the Oppo DV-981HD is far from satisfactory and strongly resembles the quality of the image provided by the zoom function. My feeling is that DivX, just as zoom, are not properly processed through the Faroudja upscaler.

Can anyone comment on the upscale quality of divx/xvid movie playback on an Oppo DV-970HD which has the Mediatek video processor??
