On the partsexpress speaker wire it looks like the wires are 2 different colors...whats up with that? As far as I know, copper is only a brown color, not silver.

Dates back to the old days.

Copper is supposed to be the (+, red) and the silver colored is then (-, black).

* I never new the hows and why of it other than it made remembering what gets connected to what easier.

well it won't matter which is + and which is -, as long as your speakers and receiver are in phase, right?

So why is the one wire silver....?

No it doesn't, but haveing them in phaise requires that one side of the wire go to - on both the receiver and speaker and the other side go to +. If you cross them that puts them out of phaise.

Being different colors makes that's easier to keep up with without having to label them. It's that simple.

I think the question is whether one wire being different than the other will cause it to have worse characteristics than the first, lowering the overall quality of the speaker cable.

I posted it in your another thread, but as far as I can tell from the description on their web site, it is copper only and the conductor also is brown. It is the cover which is of 2 different color, making it easier for connection/polarity. Here is the part of description

Clear and brown PVC insulation. Clear insulation polarity is indicated by wire color.

So the actual wire is not silver, it is made of copper also?

It seems like that from the description on their web site.

It might be nickel coated copper.

Well the only other speaker wire available on their website has no polarity coding at all....I'd rather just buy the other stuff and not risk getting something other than copper wire, but how can you keep your polarity in phase if their is no coding?

Is this stuff sufficient for speakers and subwoofers?

That's fine. It is 12 guage for low resistance, made of copper, and stranded for durability, which makes it just as good as any other speaker wire you could buy.

This is fine for speakers. As you can see, one wire has red sleeve and other is black, so you can use that for polarity. Just connect red one to red terminal and black to black.

For subwoofer, you will need something like this

Its backordered but supposed to be available starting 1/5/07 which is today.

By the way, what are you connecting this wire to? What receiver and speakers?
