Believe me, I like my Emotiva AMP but I am not going to start drinking their Kool-Aid just yet.

Oh and have you ever heard an Onkyo 885 PRO in a high end set up? And have you ever heard Ultra 2 Cinema being used with Dolby TrueHD? I am going to guess that would be a no...

Joerod, since I cannot afford that much for a pre/pro, what are your thoughts on substituting an AVR such as the 805 (or 806) to be paired with an XPA-5?

I still have high hopes for the upcoming UMC-1, but I'd be curious what you think of that scenario given your experience with the Onkyo gear.
As it has been mentioned before it is hard to say since their units (emotivas) have not been released yet. This late in the game I would have thought we would have been able to get full specs by now. I have passed out the Onkyo/Integra firmware updates to over 5,000 AVS members and with their last gen they had a 23% market growth spurt. They have been successful for a reason. To this day the Onkyo 805 is the absolute best bang for the buck receiver on the market. You get Ultra 2 Cinema mode as well as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. The 806 has come out and it is more like a downgrade when compared to the 805. Theonly feature it has over the 805 is more HDMI inputs. If your budget is tighter you would do very well getting the 805 from Amazon to pair with an Emotiva AMP. I have heard very good sound pairing the 805 with the LPA-7 and I bet the XPA 5 or UPA-7 would be very good as well. Depending on when the new Emotivas finally come out you may want to get the 805 before they are gone. I know they have halted production on them.

One other thing to consider. The 805 does weigh a heft 51 pounds where the 806 does only weigh 37 pounds. Depending on your rack or cabinet that could be a factor. The 806 of course is no slouch but after doing a detailed comparison the 805 is the way to go because it can be had for much less.

Hey joerod you may have not drunk the Emotiva kool aid yet but you sure have chugged down enough onkyo kool aid thats for sure

I just call it like I hear it.

Well, I do not think the Onykos are that great (heat issues, more bugs then others) and I have heard them too

You can listen to what you like but why post saying its better thinking everyone else will agree?

The ultra 2 stuff?..... blah, its not special at all. You can enjoy it but lets keep discussion on a more objective level?

The XMC-1 will be a really good pre/pro and better priced then other pre/pros so its going to make Emotiva owners very happy.
THX Ultra 2 may or may not be a worthwhile investment - but I've never tried it -(would be curious.) However I'd be even more interested in seeing (or hearing) what all the Audyssey stuff is about.

I 100% agree there!

Im actually disappointed with Emotiva's choice not to have Audyssey. I have an email into them right now to find out what EQing will come with the XMC-1 because I just spent $1K on the Denon 2809 and Im willing to buy the XMC-1 also when its out just to compare (30 day trial!!).
I am not a fan of Audyssey at all. May just be my room, but I have tried it on a Denon receiver, my Integra DTC-9.8, and now my Marantz AV8003. I just don't like it. Clearly some do, but to me it makes everything sound lifeless and flat. Again, may be my room, but it can stay off over here, that's for sure.

lol thats how i feel as well. I think its a great starting point for those who are not completely sure what they are doing, and it can makes things easier, but i often have to spend more time fixing things that it improperly set. For some rooms its can be great though, and in non-acoustic friendly rooms can make a difference.

So you have heard the new Emotiva UMC 1???? Wow your the first. Whats it sound like? what features does it have? And why are we discussing onkyo in an Emotiva thread anyway?
I was answering your statement about Onkyo Kool Aid. And then I was answering someone else's questions about Onkyo. For the record I love my Emotiva AMP. Seriously. I get the best sound in my theater and it is because of a good combo.

BTW, how can you guys defend a product that has not even been released yet? I have said I will definitely try one. I am not a fanboy of any company. Check out my current rack! I just happen to like the sound I get from my Onkyo 885 PRO. And to clarify, I like Ultra 2 Cinema mode with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sources. It does an excellent job feeding my backs. I will be curious to see how the new Emotivas do with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 as well. As for Audyssey I really like it and have found it very close to my sound meter settings. It does an excellent job with the crossovers and distances. There are obviously a lot of features that the Emotivas won't have but that is a major reason for the price differences. And of course I like the Onkyos better because as of now there is not an Emotiva to compare it to. And anything is better than nothing!

Dude your being delusional.... The defense was toward your ignorant comments about how the Onkyo will be alot better than the future UMC-1/XMC-1, when their is just no way you can know that because truthfully no real specs have been released on either product, its all been preliminary pre-production thoughts shared with customers, nothing solid has been released at all.

No one would have cared if you would have just typed about how awesome you think the onkyo is, which btw IS a phenominal pro, but to compare to products that have not been produced is just thoughtless. Heck their is not even a XMC-1 prototype yet!!!! lol this just blows my mind. You keep saying the Onkyo has more features... but we dont even know the features of the emo product, we just know plans for certain things, nothing concrete yet.

EDIT: P.S.- definately nice rack of equipment. I see you took off the silver trim pieces on the MPS-2. Did you know about the black trim pieces they now sell? Not sure if they made them for the MPS-2 yet, but im sure they will http://emotiva.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=33

How can you talk about another product and constantly defend it in an "Emovita Owners" thread?

There are enough fanboy threads out there for Onkyo. You may think its the best processor, I do not think it is at all. None of that should matter either, you should not be "pumping' Onkyo in this thread period.

Im sorry if you do not think you are "pumping" it and I apologize if you are offended but any time someone constantly definds a product with subjective post about their preceived SQ and so on they are simply "pumping" a product. Subjective SQ discussion is not even needed actually.
And I am not defending a product that hasnt been released. I just dont see why people come into an Emotiva thread aNd start discussing onkyo's. It just boggles my mind. The onkyo fanboys remind me of the pio fanboys in the plasma section. They go into any thread and spouting off how great their product is and totally put another manufacturers thread off track. I have a UMC 1 pre-ordered and I come into this thread to read about Emotiva amps or existing pro's not about an overheating, customer service lacking, lip sync issues, DTS-MA bombing onkyo.

Rant over

I really hope the new Emotiva pros are great because there is a real market for affordable high performance seperates. It must be really hard to be able to put out a product at the performance level they aim for at the price points they set. I had the lmc-lpa combo and returned it because I just didnt love the sound the way I had with my Outlaw seperates, but I am now saving my pennies to get the xpa-5 and umc when the umc comes out. I may not love or even like all the products Emotiva puts out but I will at least give them a shoot because they are trying to bring to market a product for me the A/V enthusiest who just cant afford a $5000 pro and $3800 amp.
Actually the 885 PRO has a msrp pf 1800 and the MPS-2 is 1699.

I actually figured this was more of an Emotiva AMP thread since they really don't have any pre/pros (newer) out yet. We need to use something until they come out and we can at least audition them. Like I posted I am impressed with my sound and my MPS-2 has a lot to do with it (at least 50%). Thanks for the tip on the black brackets. They are not out yet for the MPS-2 (I called) but when they are I will definitely grab them.

Exactly. And thats the combo I am going with. And how can you beat that when combined including the shipping (to me at least) total cost of $1658 and thats if the shipping charges on the UMC 1 are as much as the XPA 5. It will be my first foray into seperates but I dont need the extras that Denon or any other mainstream manufacturer include IE: networking, video processing etc. Why pay for something I wont use? Just my opinion

The emotiva site says free shipping for over $1k doesnt it?

I dont know but I will check into that. Thank you

I believe it is free shipping over 1,000. They gave it to me.

Well I couldnt find it on the site but if you add a MPS 2 to your cart then go to calculate shipping it says "this item exempt from shipping charges". So I tried adding a XPA 2 and an XPA 5 to the cart then calculate shipping and nothing happens. So I did the next logical thing (rare for me ) I emailed the sales department with my question. I'll post when I hear back from them.

I would just call them and ask them (615) 771 1224... Jennifer is very helpful.

I would rather not bother them for such a stupid question. I figure they will email me back soon enough. Well at least before the UMC 1 is out

They didn't just start discussing Onkyo's. Another member specifically asked how some Onkyos would sound paired with Emotiva amps. You would know that if you would read the thread. You are going to get talk about processors and receivers in this thread because, you have to have something to connect your amp to. Go figure.

Sorry to burst your bubble, not all owners have the problems you may have had with Onkyo

Rant over...

I guess I am the one wanted some advice on Onkyo/Emotiva pair from "owners" of Emotiva amps. What I get is a useless response like this wanting to justify their purchases.
I got a much more useful response from Joerod. Thanks.
I will come back to this thread once UMC/XMC's are out.
