Start-up hiccups from setting up a factory locally (instead of building overseas, like everyone else does).

Since the chips they were going to use are HDMI 1.4b and not HDMI 2.0, one of two things just happened a couple weeks back: a) their engineers couldn't differentiate between HDMI 1.4b chips and HDMI 2.0 chips, or b) they knew the difference but used it as a delay tactic anyway.

Which is it? Incompetence or dishonesty? One of those is the reason behind the announcement two weeks ago claiming they were releasing an HDMI 2.0 based product by mid March.

I think there is good money to be made by opening a book on the actual shipping date on the Emo forum site. I'm sure they don't allow such things, but imagine the money to made from the Emovites (new word I learned from a Big Dan promo video today).

You overlooked that Laufman saw his shadow on Groundhog Day which means a 6 week delay or 6 months in Emovite parlance.

I, for one, would appreciate it if the XMC-1 discussion could abate until someone has a tracking number or the product in hand.

Emotiva is not the first, nor will it be the last, Company to experience missed published availability dates or to announce products that, in the end, never appear in the hands of Customers.

The non-stop speculation and sniping are far off topic as far as the "Technical Talk Only" in the Thread title is concerned.

A quick reading of the current XMC-1 specs make it look a little like a Junior version of the DataSat RS20i at one tenth the cost. I will be very interested in how the product measures up once it is in the wild.

Wow, the word salad coming from the administrator's mouth is remarkable. The smackdown was well deserved. Wonder if he realizes who srrndhound is.

Markus,

Thanks for posting that link smile.gif. I'm not a fan of that specific Emotiva employee. It really shows the lengths that some people go to look like they think they know what they are talking about wink.gif. He should have stopped posting when srrndhound posted "I invented PLIIx. Is that sufficient?" smile.gif. But no he dug a much deeper hole. I guess when ones ego is much larger than their knowledge those things will happen wink.gif.

It's amazing to see how so many are quick to come to the rescue when the emotiva leadership is called out for making false promises and for failing to deliver on grand expectations. All in hopes of something truly special. The xmc-1 made turn out to be a great product but I wouldn't bet on it. Not a very well ran or Efficient organization when it comes to pre/pro.

That was quite a smackdown! He was given a nice large slice of humble pie along with a hefty topping of STFU. A classic owning if I ever saw one

It's even worse than false promises IMO. A couple of weeks back they said the delay on the XMC-1 until March was so that they could bring out a HDMI 2.0 version. Now, they say that they are bringing out a HDMI 1.4b version - but the date is still March. Makes no sense. If they already have a HDMI 1.4b version then the 'reason' for delaying it until March has evaporated now they are saying that they will not have a HDMI 2,0 version anyway. So why not just release it now?  Something doesn’t smell right.

This, of course, also ignores the point that an organisation making what they say is a bleeding edge processor apparently struggle to differentiate between HDMI 1.4b and HDMI 2.0, at least according to 'Big' Dan:

"When we changed to the new high performance, 4k compatable <sic> ADV7625 HDMI mux's, we believed that we could legitimately claim HDMI 2.0 capability. However, after carefully reviewing the final specifications of the parts, and just as importantly deciphering what can and can not legitimately be called HDMI 2.0, we believe it is technically correct and responsible to state that the XMC-1 is HDMI v1.4b compliant."

Am I alone in finding that a little disturbing?

As Bill (Mac) said a while back - the thread title of the other XMC-1 thread needs changing. "Emotiva XMC-1 World's First HDMI 2.0 Pre/Pro".  A simple addition of 'not' would do it ;)

That concisely sums it up, kbarnes.  I just can't see how a company which is building a new model isn't even aware of which HDMI version they have on their hands this close to the release date.  Something is wrong here, they've gone from a February release date to March after promising summer of 2012 and then repeatedly punting the date down the road.

According to http://xmc-1.com/ it's April now.

Let me get this straight.  They project a release date, after years and years of delays, for February 15, 2014.  Then about a couple of weeks before that they delay to March so they can include HDMI 2.0.  Then they announce it's going back to HDMI 1.4, and add another month?

What's next, a manual revision, and May sounds like a good time?

The constantly slipping shipping date is something of a tradition with Emotiva and processors. It isn’t something in itself that would concern me too much - it comes when it comes, but what does concern me are the reasons given for the slippage. With the UMC-1, where they established this 'tradition', the main reason given was that they didn't want to release it until it was 'perfect'. When it eventually came it was so far from perfect as to be almost unbelievable, with numerous problems and faults that were left to owners to discover. Now, with the XMC-1, the pattern seems to be repeating itself. The latest reason given for the delay no longer makes sense in light of their subsequent announcement that it is a " HDMI 1.4b unit". So what's the real reason?  Have they discovered some essential flaw, not unlike those in the UMC-1 and have had to delay shipping because they know they can’t get away with shipping a less than 100% product this time?  If so, will it be 100% by March, the latest official date, or will it slip some more?  All in all it is too worrying for me, personally, to consider it seriously. And I really do want this unit to be perfect - it's Dirac that is the killer feature AFAIAC and I would love a $2k unit to have a great implementation of Dirac.

Of course, it is also possible that all current processors will become obsolete overnight if and when Atmos or Auro come to consumer products, which may be sooner than we all think, so one would need to think very carefully about buying a new processor in those circumstances anyway. Just a thought (and thanks to SD for implanting it in my mind).

This is the problem once credibility has flown out the window. People find it hard to believe anything they are told. They say February... then they say March... then they say April... what will they say when April comes?

Whatever, it is shaping up to be a PR and marketing disaster. It could all have been avoided. All they had to do was keep schtum until they had a product and then announce it with a huge fanfare and sit back and watch sales take off. As it is, they look like a Mickey Mouse outfit (no disrespect, Mickey) and every extra delay digs the hole a little deeper.

I saw copies of manuals in that XMC video going into boxes.
So, where is the PDF I can download to read?
They will need a group of engineers to write the code to put into the PDF.

And they are now gunshy at setting a date for that to be made public smile.gif

EDIT. Did you actually see an xmc1 go into the box?? I know I didn't. I am betting it was a xsp1 or the like that they showed a video of them putting in a box to start up some hype. Making it "look" like xmc1's were being boxed.

If they were really being boxed why another month and a half minimum for its release?!

I'm so happy to see that guy from Duck Dynasty that works for Emotiva get sonned like that. That was beautiful. What was even better was the jackass fanboy that asks srrndhound just who he is and the reply is PRICELESS. I've read Duck Dynasty's responses before over there and facepalmed but this was as good as it gets.

Have you been a bad boy? Then you have to leave the "Emotiva family". They take your money but please don't scare the lemmings, they might run in the wrong direction.

If it helps, I got banned (second time) without any reason or warning a couple of days ago. I fully understand why that happened: I was talking about Dirac Live in a XMC thread. Of course this has to be considered offensive even when the discussion was initiated by a Dirac marketing guy. If you have too much time on your hands please watch the drama unfold at http://emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/35175/xmc-1-month?page=14&scrollTo=609188 biggrin.gif

I read the exchanges you had over there. I'm surprise you lasted as long as you did before getting banned. It really doesn't look well for them to get rid of individuals who rightfully point out the inconsistencies they continually make. Very suspicious if you ask me.

A new Emotiva pre pro is coming out soon so the bannings will continue until morale improves.

Been banned for over 9 mos now and I have lost a truly entertaining experience from reading their forum..

Any chance you could post the PRICELESS REPLY here?
