Didn't they (MS) also say 1080P was irrelevant; HDMI output (only if market demand it) and voila! HDMI output comes out with a new design.
I think it would be good for consumer and MS; if MS integrated HD-DVD:
1. Xbox 360 looks streamline; at least IMOP there is no sidekick next to xbox 360.
2. It would cost less or the same to manufacture the xbox 360 with HD-DVD integrated. Factor in the cost of producing the external hd-dvd:
a. the cost of manufacturing the power cable/brick.
b. Cost of USB Cable.
c. Cost of hd-dvd chassis.
d. cost of retail box.
These probably add up to close to $100.
I think it make sense to integrate HD-DVD; whether for gaming or just playing movies. A win-win situation.
You may say: what if HD-DVD market dies; no harm since it can read/play standard dvd.
