Receiver for PS3

Thread Starter
I was wondering if anyone had a good recommendation for a receiver that supports HDMI 1.3 to run my PS3 through. The TV is a sony KDS60A2000 and I would also like to hook my HDMI DVD (for regular DVD's) and my Sat. receiver. I may also (but not definitely) like to hook my HDMI camcorder up to receiver or TV eventually.

Sorry if this seems like the wrong forum, but I thought the PS3 crowd might have a little more insight.

Again I would like to make sure the receiver has HDMI 1.3 support for the 1080p.

Thanks for the help, I would really like to buy the receiver and get this set up today so the kids can play the PS3. ( I know I could plug it in directly but I don't want the kids to be pulling the HDMI cables in and out of the TV.

Anyone have a setup similar that is working without glitches?

Thanks again

I have a Denon 3806 and really happy with it. My TV is not 1080p, but the 3806 will support 1080p HDMi switching.

Right now there is no recievers with HDMI 1.3, There should be several announced at CES next week though.
That's what I'm waiting for.

I thought that 1.3 was the 1080p support? Is that not correct? What will the 1.3 enabled receiver do for me that a receiver with 1080p support will not do?

I really just want to play the PS3 without any loss of resolution for if/when they produce games in full 1080p. Do I need a 1.3 HDMI to do this or will a receiver like the Sony DA5200ES work?

1080p is supported by 1.2 for sure. I think the 1.3 is more for audio formats.
Well I know that HDMI 1.3 supports all the lossless audio formats on HD DVD & Blu-ray but it also supports "deep color" video but no TV's support that yet.

If you want a reciever that passes 1080p check out the Sony STR-DA5200ES , multiple HDMI inputs & the PS3 GUI.

I think 1.2 supports the transport of the lossless audio as well. It just is not smart enough to include it in its negotiation between the receiver and the source audio. As long as you can manually select it for output from the source (you can on the ps3) and as long as the receiver supports the format it will work. I think that the Sony mentioned above uses 1.2

Sorry, wrong forum Stooner.

But to add to the conversation about receivers. I just picked up the Onkyo 604 (replaced a Pioneer 816). After getting it up and running I popped in the Silent Hill BD and set it to 5.1 uncompressed.
The sound that I was hearing brought a tear to my eye is was so good.

The only down side is that the receive clicks in and out of different modes when the movie starts playing. But once the final track is up and running it's pure heaven.
The HDMI on the receiver is only 1.1 but it does support HDCP.

I have not been able to use the PS3 and the Sony STRDG900 (might be Canada only model, similar to G800 but with HDMI repeater)... When connected to the receiver via HDMI, no audio comes thru. In the PS3 audio settings, if I select HDMI 'automatic', I get an error code. If I select 'manual', I can choose which audio formats I want to enable, but do not get audio regardless of what I select.

Now I've connected hdmi directly to my Sony tv, and via optical cable to the receiver, but the point of me getting the receiver was so I could switch hdmi sources (including my Rogers cablebox).

The cablebox (Sci Atlantic 8300HD) is another headache, apparently it won't work thru an avr either, due to HDCP issues.

Anyone have any ideas? I got a great deal on the receiver and like it otherwise, but should I return it and wait for better solutions in the future?

Got back from CES today and unfortunately there were no real HDMI 1.3 receiver announcements. A spoke with a Pioneer rep and he said the delay is due to the fact that the HD audio codecs are still being tweaked and fine tuned. He said the 1.3 spec is done and their company is just waiting for the audio codec to become finalized before they release any products.

As long as the PS3 decodes the audio tracks, there is no need to get a receiver with HDMI 1.3.

Just get a receiver that accepts multi-channel PCM via HDMI and enjoy the new audio NOW.

any suggestions on which receivers will accept multi-channel pcm via hdmi?

I setup the BD/DVD settings in the PS3 to Linear PCM via HDMI and Linear PCM via optical

I connect both cables to my STRDA5200ES (which I bought yesterday) and there is no audio via the HDMI and there is only Linear PCM 48Khz via optical.

I set up the PS3 to out put to HDMI in the AUTO mode (all the codecs) and the unit says that audio is not available through the HDMI for this component?

WTF?

I just want to be able to hear and use the best surround sound from my BLU RAY movies.

Anyone know how to set this up?

I've had no problems w/ my Yamaha rxv-661 (level 6 receiver, according to the linked post above). Sounds like you wanna plug in alot of HDMI stuff, though, and this only has two inputs. Has to be the best bang-for-buck, in my opinion.

Cool. Thanks. So let me get this straight...it passes 1080P video and lossless audio over HDMI 1.3 right?

If you don't mind me asking...how much did it cost you? The one I am getting is $499 but cheaper would be cool too!

I bought it from CC for $350.

not to pry, but are you sure you didn't pick up the 604 instead of the 605? that's the cheapest i've heard of the 605 selling and i doubt CC would sell for that price...
