As NorthJersey has already asked, what DVD recorder model?

I have not tried making a DVD of something recorded to the HDD of my Pioneer 520H or 640H from HBO this week, but I had no trouble whatsoever last week. I do not have Tivo, but I do have DirecTV with Hughes and a Sony receivers.

Dimax Grex, I'm sure it will solve your problem.

I haven't tried this since Jan 1st, but in the past this has always worked for me just fine using my HR10-250 DirecTivo and my Panasonic EH50 DVD recorder.

When you say IT says... what IT are you talking about: the DVD recorder is refusing to record, or the Tivo is refusing to play? Some recorders will give a "false positive," saying a program is flagged "no copy" when it isn't. In this case it is the recorder's fault and you should return it for a less finicky one.

I'll try this tonight and see what my Tivo and EH50 say.

CCRomeo, You should really tell him that a "Dimax Grex" is a filter that will get rid of the Copyguard in PPV, ON Demand, DVDs & Video Tapes & etc so the program or movie can be recorded.

Is there a thread and/or any discussions anywhere that has user comments regarding that Grex?

The LGs won't let you record pay channels. I returned mine and got another brand.

Your LG Model DR1F9H is listed as being compatable also recomended.
The grex works great for me and with fewer negative video effects than my Sima CT-200. You may have to wait 10-14 days for it to come in the mail. I use it with a SA explorer 8000 and Panasonic DMR ES25 and also to backup my VHS, S-VHS tapes and my DVDs

I am interested in this, too. Since these kind of things really are not supposed to be discussed here, if anyone knows, please point us to the site.

CCRomeo mentions the Sima, which I have. So far I have only used it to make copies of a few, old VHS movies I own. The films have been (finally) released on DVD within the past two years, but they are *not* the original, full length versions as were the VHS releases. I am not sure if it is due to the ancient, degrading VHS tapes themselves or the Sima (or not having an S-VHS player), but I do wish the DVD copies I have made would have been better.

Why classic films are not always released in their original on DVD is beyond me. Really, I would rather buy the DVD than have to make a copy of an old VHS tape.

I understand it has to do with the contracts made years before DVDs. For example you can get DVDs for the TV series Tour of Duty but the original music is missing due to the contracts and the cost now to redo them for DVDs.
Sometimes the VHS and DVD releases of the same movie are slightly different. Example I have 3 versions of Pink Floyd Pulse; Laser Disk, VHS, and DVD all are different even the CD set is different. Also the VHS versions you have may never have been made into DVDs yet, example Kingdom of Heaven and Dancing with Wolves can be found in SE VHS but very hard to find in DVD.

I'm thinking about even older films, CCRomeo. I'd have to read some early reviews over at Amazon to be sure, but I think the DVD version of Hawaii is about 22 minutes shorter than the original (and VHS version). Without buying or renting the DVD version, I can not say if the cut part encompases background music (Idea: royalty problems for specific background pieces).

Thanks guys... That will give me some reading so I can read user comments, or get to know it better.. This is the first time I've heard of it...
My situation is that I have the entire James Bond collection on VHS. I am about to order my (very first) dvd recorder soon, so I'd hope to transfer them on to disks.
I have my eye on the Pioneer 640... just waiting to see if Walmart (online) will drop the price. I was hoping to order it from them, because I have a Walmart super-center in my hometown; just in case I need to return it for some odd reason.

Thanks again for the info on that Grex...

Tommy: If you get Encore, 15 or 16 of the James Bond films are being shown this month, many at odd viewing hours. If you get the 640H soon and do get Encore, I would suggest just recording the films this way rather than making copies of the VHS tapes.

Hi ngohit; thanks very much. Yes, I do get Encore.... and I didn't know they were having all the movies on there... Thank you !!

Tommy: Monthly schedules can be download (.pdf files) at Encore's site. The following are the two James Bond films under tomorrow's schedule, Monday January 8, from the Encore Mystery Channel:

7:05a The Spy Who Loved Me (2:05)·PG
Other zones: CT·6:05aMT·5:05a

5:30a The Man With The Golden Gun (2:05)·PG [Actually early Tuesday morning]
Other zones: CT·4:30aMT·3:30a

Until the end of November, I used Yahoo! exclusively for getting my TV schedule. It was great. I especially liked being able to click on a station name to get just that station's schedule for the day then select other days from a pull down menu. Also, I *loved* their search box.

Then they *improved* their TV page and the way schedules are shown. Instead of being able to set the start time for the grid by a specific hour, there are now predefined, three hour blocks. I hate their *improvements.*

If you have an online programming site you like, please point me to it. I have started to use TVGuide and occasionally, DirecTV, but definitelly miss the old Yahoo! TV.

We're getting a little off topic here, but since you ask, here goes. One online TV programming site I particularly like is http://next-episode.net/index.php . What its specialty is is giving you the next new episode (read not a repeat) of a bunch of popular TV shows. You can even customize it by signing in so it displays only the shows you're interested in.

In this day and age of countless repeats and irregular week to week program schedules, this site has saved me many a disappointment of sitting down to watch a show I was looking forward to, only to find out it's a repeat.

By the way, one reason I'm such a fan of TVGOS (when it works well, like in my Toshiba RD-XS35, unlike my previous Pioneer DVR-633H-S), is that it indicates when a new episode is being aired.

I have tried several combination of programs from HBO and my HR10-250 and Panasonic EH50 and all of them recorded with no problems.
