Pre-made acoustic panels out of Owens Corning 703 are expensive over the internet and I don't have time to DIY, so I'm looking to pay someone in the Washington DC area to make them for me.

PM me if interested.

I like making lots of things, while i've never made this item, I did have a few questions for you....

Are you looking for just the panels?

Or do you want the panels with some type of fabric covering?

What is expensive? I found a pack of 6 panels for $74.

Thanks

Will look for the panels locally to save shipping, similar to the link you provided. People have stated here that they've gotten then for less per sq. foot than the price on ATS Acoustics.

I can also get the fabric covering. Most DIY instructions show a wooden frame and some way to hang it on the wall. Is the wooden frame not needed?

Not trying to highjack here but I'm trying to find a local mentor to help me organize, plan and build my HT setup.

At present I have a HC 1500, a set of B&W and may be picking up a Integra DTR.

My next step is to build a screen and then do some calibration.

Anyone interested? I thought about doing a BBQ day and having the Mrs. be on the grill while the guys work on the HT.

If anyone is interested let me know

PS - I'm located in Alexandria VA

Valdeztke, There are good number of NoVA HT builders who will show up for an offer of burgers and beer.

Grayson: what to you consider expensive over the Internet for a 2x4 acoustic panel with wood frame wrapped in your choice of fabric?

From my quick calculations the raw materials are:

Insulation: $15 with shipping
Fabric: .75d of GOM $15 with shipping
Wood (guess) $8
Misc shop supplies $3

Total= $41.

Sensiblesoundsolutions.com will sell you that panel for $69. plus shipping.

I could make these for you but it's not worth $28 a panel for my time.

The cost of commercial panels is not in the raw materials - it is in the making taking time. So unless you host an AVS make my panels party (I would rethink the free beer at such an event if you want a professional looking result....) - getting someone to do it for you will end up costing just as much as to buy-n-ship. Maybe even more considering the bulk discounts on raw materials a maker gets that you will not - and warehouse labor being cheaper than on-site labor.

The offer of a job was old, the offer of B&B was yesterday.

Well better late than never. At my age how to you expect me to read the date anyway.

When I first joined this site years ago, some of us use to meet at DaveNBusters in Silver Spring.. swapping ideas. I only attended one event, but the wealth of knowledge was worth meeting people. I think that thread is still around...

The offer of beer and meat does sound tempting..

Do you guys know there is an actual local meets section of AVS http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forum...esc&sort=views (the Portland/Vancouver thread is the longest and oldest one there - not to brag or anything!)

Just had animal control out to remove some dead possum so you hillbillies are SOL. Can you believe they complained I did not move the dead critter from my backyard to the roadside so they did not have to walk to get it? But now you know why they always look like roadkill - its where animal control wants you to leave it!
