Second 360 or PS3?

I'd like a little input here. Please vote and elaborate if you'd like.

First off, money is not really an object since I won my fantasy football league and have enough for either a Premium 360 or PS3. It's starting to burn a hole in my pocket.

I currently have my 360 + HD DVD add on in the living room hooked up to my 42" LCD, surround, etc. I think the HD DVD would be much better served hooked up to my projector, in the dedicated HT room, but I really like the 360 in the living room, so I was kicking around getting a second one primarily for HD DVDs and the occassional game.

But then I got to thinking...the whole Blu Ray vs. HD DVD thing makes me nervous, and maybe I should cover my behind by getting a PS3. Honestly the PS3 does not impress me at the moment for gaming and the 360 has converted me from a Playstation guy to an Xbox guy because of Live, what I feel are superior controllers, and the media streaming capabilities ...but there will inevitably be some PS3 exclusives I'll want.

I guess the new console will primarily be used for movies.
As an aside, I will be sending 720p component video to the projector.

So if you guys had to choose between a "free" PS3 or a second 360, what would you do?

I know this is the Xbox forum, but please don't PS3-bash. I just want some insightful forward looking opinions. Thanks.

If you dont know.. just wait..

Why would you let a bunch of strangers make a $500 decision for whats best for you and your home..

Keep reading the threads on both the xbox and ps side.. and you will be able to make a much more confident decision..

If you really have the money burning a hole in your pocket, I'd say get a PS3.

Normally I woudln't, but after just picking up the HD-DvD add-on, and realizing how many movies I want that are on BD, I probably would just for the drive in your situation

neither. if you really want another 360 just wait a few months, a newer revision is coming possibly with HDMI, 120gb, 65nm chips

I have 4 360s at my house and 1 PS3. The system link "fun factor" of the 360s is far superior to anything I've used the PS3 for. If you have neighbors, friends, family members or coworkers that will come over and game with you, I recommend the 2nd 360. My PS3 is a nice Blu-Ray player for movie night though.

My next console purchase will be a second 360 for lan play.
These things are more expensive and apparently more fragile so I can't keep expecting my friends to tote around their 360's for lan matches like we did with the old xbox.

Free? the choice is easy
Get a PS3. I'd rather get something I don't already have.
I'm having a blast with Resistance online.(more than I ever thought I would). Your not limited to what next gen games you can play or movies you can watch when you have both.

Interesting question. 3 360's and 1 PS3 here. I agree that multiple 360's provide system link which can be *very* nice given you have the right setup at home (multiple hd displays, more than 1 copy of the game and other people to play with).

Multiple 360's also provide streaming hd video, images and audio to all your displays if you have a PC network to use with them and can even be useful for Xbox live accounts. You should be aware that there's a solid chance of 360 model getting some kind of upgrade in '07 though, so maybe buy a replacement plan?

The other factor is if you have other people in the house that might want to use your 360 library in another room.

All that said, I wouldn't pass on a 'free' PS3 unless you don't want to watch blu-ray movies yet for some reason (not into buying your hd movies or perhaps you intend to buy a hybrid player or such?) and you don't see any exclusive PS3 titles in the near future that you'd really want to play, otherwise add the PS3.

You said it's primarly for movies so a PS3 seems the natural choice unless you can really take advantage of 2 or more 360's. As for games if the exclusives you want are a long way off then you can always buy the PS3 later (when the price may drop anyway).

I also have the launched 360 with an HD-DVD add-on and the PS3. I was considering a second PS3 for game and BD movies in another room, but with the 360 "revision 2" rumored to be out "soon"... I definitely would wait. If 360 R2 has built-in HD-DVD, it would be a no brainer to get the R2 as a second unit...for me at least.

Just wait and get the LG Dual format HD-DVD/Bluray player that they're coming out with.

Second 360. Probably even v2 if it exists or comes out.

A second 360 makes more sense if you want it for the online play.

Uh? My launch 360 plays on Live just fine.

3 360's and 1 PS3. The flexibility of multiple 360's outweighs the PS3 today.

Interesting. I probably would get the PS3 but then I dont hold a lot of LAN parties nor would i have anyone wanting to play my 360 games in another room. Eventually there will be games out on the PS3 that you will want to play and Blue Ray may very well win the format war and will probably be easier to find those movies to rent.

I have 2 premium 360's. One in the family room with HD-DVD and my daughter has the other.

I also have a PS3 in master bedroom. Daughter has a Wii also.

There are extra cables (power included) already connected for the PS3 in the family room and for the 360 in the master bedroom so moving consoles is just a matter of un-plugging from the back and moving only the console its self.

If I were you, I would get the PS3 because of Blu Ray. But add to that the fact that you can also get Resistance, Motorstorm (demo), GT HD (demo) and the new Gripshift game.

I gotta say, it is real nice have all three systems and both media formats. If you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, I say get the PS3. If for no other reason than to have Blu Ray to go with HD DVD. Plus, you can get the system exclusive games!

PS3 sounds like a win win to me.

The poll results at the moment are exactly like what's going on in my head - it could go either way.

Right now I'm leaning toward the second 360, I could probably even get by with a Core since I already have a set of components not in use, but the best advice of all might be to just wait a little while. This is really more about BD vs HD DVD - I'm thrilled with the xbox 360 overall and wouldn't have any inkling whatsoever to get a PS3 right now if not for Blu Ray...

Thanks for the input everyone.
