Which HTIB should I buy?

Hi. I'm a newbie to all of this...just bought our first HDTV, a Panasonic 42PX60U and will be getting our cable box upgraded to HD next week. I'm looking for a HTIB system to enhance our viewing experience, but am confused as to which we should buy. I mistakenly went out today and picked up a Panasonic SC-HT940, which now after doing research I will likely return due to lack of inputs.

I really don't think we need a 7.1 system, I'm sure 5 speakers would be enough. I also want a dvd player and would love something that's XM ready. I've looked at the Onkyo systems at CC and unfortunately the sales person there wasn't the most knowledgeable. We would be watching DVDs, HD from the cable box, and perhaps down the road want to add a game system. I also would like the option of plugging in my Ipod Video through my DLO dock, for both listening and video. What systems are out there that you'd recommend? I'm looking to spend $500-$600 for all of it, including DVD player. Also, would a separate DVD player be recommended rather than the all-in-one systems that include the DVD?
Thanks in advance!

I have a friend who has the 7.1 Onkyo HTIB from CC and is very happy with it. I would recommend a seperate DVD player. I am always wary of anything 'all-in-one', just seems like something else to break.

I, and a lot of other people here, would recommend the Onkyo 790. You don't have to use all 7.1, you can just as easily run it at 5.1. It's just a solid unit top to bottom. I like having a separate DVD player, as it's less to worry about. The 790 and an external DVD player could easily be had for under 600.

Thanks, if I go with the 7.1, CC is running a special on Onkyo DVD players now purchased along with the 7.1....I'd like to get everything in one place (lazy, I know....plus I can't wait to hook it all up)! Are the Onkyo DVD players good, or is there another at Circuit City I should be looking at?

Never used an Onkyo DVD player, so I can't say. I'd tell you to just get the specs on it, and look it up reviews on Amazon, Consumer Reports, or CNET.

Unless you have to buy a DVD player at CC I would think more along these lines to get the best performance out of that new TV at some very reasonable prices...
