I didn't think Cars was that great of a movie. Cars can't touch Finding Nemo, The Incredibles or Monsters Inc.

Agreed and agreed. I thought I would enjoy Cars but after seeing it, no thanks. The other three are far better IMO as well.

Cars! Another reason I'm glad I went format neutral and bought into Blu-ray! I remember reading somewhere Finding Nemo is planned to be released in '07 as well. Bring it on, and any more great releases they see fit to offer!

I have been waiting to see this on Blu-ray.

Unfortunately, the date stated on the 'bits is "Summer" not "June". This is not encouraging.

Last year, when a title actually had a release date, about 90% of the time it happened. When it simply had a time interval or "coming soon", it only happened about 50% of the time.

Based on this information, I have to put Cars in the long list of maybe's.

alas, maybe we should see more disney titles with dates soon!

Wow, great news!

Cars in SD DVD was my choice for Demo material
...before I got HD DVD and Blu-Ray.

I also thought Ice Age II in SD looked great... until I picked up the BluRay Version Wow!
Cant wait to see Cars REALLY pop off the screen in Blu too.

Crappy screen shot of my SD DVD up-converted on my 50" Plasma:

Anyone else notice a BluRay preview of Disney's Pirates of the Carribean
in a montage at the start of the Pearl Harbour Blu-Ray?

.... I was expecting to see a release date for that one too.
..specially since the other 4 are already on the shelves

just grabbed the a quick screen shot...

I'm going to buy Cars but not at $15+.
I'll buy it previously viewed.
I'll go ahead and add it to my collection.
I'm of course talking about the SD version.

When are we going to get Pirates 1 and 2? Of course, it may just be better to wait for a trilogy box set.

You REALLY think Disney/Pixar would release Toy Story on Blu-Ray. THAT would sell a few players.
The Incredibles would be great on Blu-ray, but the 1080i version on my DVR taped off of Starz HD will hold me over until then.

It's about time this came out. Disney really missed a golden opportunity by not releasing it on Blu-Ray right away right at the same time of the PS3 release.

Yes, my 7 year old step daughter is going to flip!

Completely agree. I still think that the BDA didn't really care about 2006 except to say they were there. I think they were always looking to 2007.

Still, it was pretty stupid not to do a day and date with DVD. I know I didn't buy the DVD because I figured a BD would come. Now if they'd do the whole Pixar lineup plus the veritable classics from Disney's animation (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King) they would really be cementing BD. People would buy BD for just those titles. Of course, Disney's got "the vault concept," but the least they could do is give us at least one of those animated titles this year since they'll likely drag it out over five years like they did with DVD.

And I want Dead Man's Chest on BD. Why delay it Disney? Why?

At this point in the game, you still have to please the early adopters. So I think BVHE wants to maximize POTC's release on BD while also generating a lot more excitement when the final film is unveiled this summer.

Average DVD owners won't care much about buying the 2nd POTC now though BD supporters here know better. By the time people migrate to BD en masse, POTC box set would be ready.

I cant believe everyone is so excitable about a cartoon (same goes for the Pirates movie). Wow I bought into BR mainly for Disney content but wow you guys got me beat.... LOL

Well, it is the first MAJOR animation title from Disney (not counting Dinosaur). So for me it is not that it is Cars or a cartoon, but the fact that we are seeing the beginning of many classics to come.

Not only that, but animated material gives the BEST opportunity for reference material for HD. Nothing gets into an animated movie that is not specifically placed there, either for audio or picture. There's no blur, no out-of-focus, no overexposed film, no errant sounds, no wind noise. Each sound can also be deliberately placed in individual channels. Animated films long gave me reference quality material on SD-DVD. The same opportunity exists for HD, and who is the king of animation? For the longest time, it's been Pixar. Dreamworks finally made a challenge with "Over the Hedge", and others are coming.

So, you bought into BD for Disney content, but don't see anything special about their two top movies of 2006, Cars and that "Pirates movie" which was the #1 movie domestically or worldwide and took in over a billion dollars. I'm guessing you like the older stuff then?
