Image centering in raster for Runco 933

Hello,

After a lot of trying I seem to have hit a brickwall and I need some help

My setup is dvd-player -> Moonjong scaler -> Runco 933 (NEC 6PGxtra)

The problem is that with the scaler the standard timings (for instance 720p@60 and 1080p@60) do not produce an immage that can be centered within the raster.

For 1080p I have to shift horizontal positioning allmost to 100% and even then there is something missing on the left and on the right of the image, there is a lighter vertical area that becomes less bright if I use blanking. (isn't it bad to have this control to allmost 100%?)

Now am I missing something? I found the amplitude control to make the raster bigger or smaller and I found that I could shift the raster on the fosfor with the rings behind the yoke. I've done all that but I seem to mis something to make the image wider or smaller vertical and horizontal. On the Barco I used to have this was called vertical size and horizontal size and with h-phase I could shift the picture from left to right.

Now I put a lot of time is this and made a custom resolution for 1080p@50 on my scaler and by chosing the right front and back porches (by trial and error) I was able to get this right but if this is the only way should I than conclude that this Nec can only be run right with a htpc (with powerstrip) or a scaler that has all timings adjustable? On my moonjong I have only one adjustable timing

Hopefully someone will tell me that I can correct for bad timings within the Nec somehow

Have you set phase for each of the signals? Doug

Hi Doug,

After a pause and looking at 1080p again it is not so bad as I thought. The horizontal position is on 83% and I hope that is not to much stress for the electronics?

The missing part on the left is very small and is probable caused by the front porch being a little to small and I think I'll have to live with that and that is possible by blanking a little of the picture.

But about the phase I've set it to the middle of the raster, seems perfect.

If the 83% is not to far from normal then I think I can live with this. The situation from yesterday seems to be solved by rebooting the player and scaler.

I read something about a pot that controlls the width is that the width of the image or the raster? I do miss a few inches in width now.

+83 on position doesn't matter as far as I know.

My horizontal shift is similar.

Ok, thank you but the missing part of the picture is a little worse than I thought, I saw tonight that I'm missing 1 1/2 character and that is about 2 ".

Can this be corrected with a pot meter?

No. The width pot is just a coarse version of the Amplitude control (technically the reverse actually).

You need more porch pixels I think.

Also check that the blanking is backed out and check the source before transcoding. Im not sure on the Moonjong or what adjustments it has to phase / position control. Doug

Yes, I came to the same conclusion so I won't look further.

The Moonjong scaler is great in the removal of hdcp but I can only use one custom resolution that works perfect by the way. For 1080p@60 I'm missing a small part on the side. But I won't complain the Moonjong was relatively cheap and does a great job on my custom 1080p@50 resolution

Ok, I checked and was ok. It seems the Runco is very precise on the acceptable timings. Perhaps a warning for someone that wants to connect a hd-dvd player/blue-ray through a Moome box. I don't think they will get the timings right with the Runco/Nec 6pgXtra
