Oppo or Denon 1930CI or XBOX 360 HD

After the recent divorce, I lost most of my gear. So I am building it back up. Currently, I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma TH-42PX60U with nothing else. First thing I want to do is pick up a new DVD player. Should I just go with the XBOX 360 or opt for the cheaper Oppo? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Well, you also mentioned the Denon DVD-1930CI in the thread title. But which Oppo did you have in mind (they make a few models)?

With either the Denon or one of the Oppos, you'll get 1080 upscaling over HDMI/DVI. The XBox 360 HD-DVD drive hooks up to the 360 with a USB 2.0 cable and still sends video information over component video up to 1080i for HD-DVDs (standard DVD is still sent 480p from the XBox unless I'm mistaken; I'm not big on gaming).

Most of the Oppo players are equipped with the excellent Faroudja DCDi deinterlacer, just like the Denon is.

So I guess it really depends on what is more important to you - quality of standard DVD playback or the added HD-DVD capability.
