Credit card and management on Xbox.com

Just wanted to ask anyone who has added a credit card to their Xbox Live account, can you delete the card details yourself or have to call xbox support? I am always wary of entering CC details that are kept on record, especially if there is a chance a company like EA could get hold of my details. Thanks

My God, this is an example of how the internet totally brainwashes some folks.

Hating EA for various reasons like re-hashing old game ideas is one thing, but to think that they're theives because you don't like this year's Madden is just nuts.

Just what is a "company like EA"? Define your statement please. Can't wait for the references to pay content on Live, or how bad Carbon sucks, or something else.

There is a thing called privacy. What excalty would EA do with your credit card number? I have entered my info on many of websites and many of gameing consoles (wii, xbox, ps3) so you really have nothing to worry about.

When i was young and with my first CC, i was nevious about entering that data into a computer but now, everything i do is online. Its what you do to pay bills etc.. Heck, you can't even book an airline ticket without a credit card.

Your credit card number is more at rish say you computer becomes corrupt and you get hacked. or you have a better chance of being mugged and having your stuff stolen, depending where you live.

This is why http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/08/ea...-brother-role/

Not sure of the accuracy of this story but I remember I got an email from EA when I downloaded the demo of Battlefield 2 and signed in to Live which suggests there is some information being passed on to EA.

I had you on ignore but took you off because I thought you had posted something of use - thanks for reminding me why I did in the first place.

so you ignore him for telling the truth? I guess I'll be next on your list.

Everything he said is 100% true. Even if MS shared your CC details with EA, the most they'd use it for is identity verification most likely for data purposes (i.e. your sex/age)

WTF, do you think EA would charge your card without you ever knowing? I mean seriously, what do you think would come of this?

Paranoia FTW. I'm sure you'd be one of the people to watch the "conspiracy" videos of 9/11 and post how true it is everyone.

Where is the truth in what he said? I asked a question, the logical response would be to say "you have no concerns, if you still do monitor your credit cards, accounts etc". Something along the lines of what mcmushx15 posted. Rather he attacks me saying I am hating on EA. And you also now accuse me of watching "conspricy" videos.

My original post did not say anything negative about him. If I was negative about EA that is my opinion and I did not accuse EA of anything. Yet the response was worded as an attack.

Its a shame, sometimes the simplest things like being polite are beyond most people. Thanks for all the responses.

Mods please close.

Since it doesn't look like your question was answered. Here goes. No, neither you nor the folks at XBOX live support can delete the info. How do I know? Well here is my horror story...

I bought my 360 right before the 4th of July weekend, signed up for a gold membership and went about my business. In late July the card I had used to sign up with was stolen. I reported it to my bank and got another one issued. I logged into live as soon as I got it and entered all the info. I don't play games much on my 360, in fact I still don't own any. I do use it extensively as an extender tho and used it to purchase and download media from Live. Anyway in November right before Thanksgiving I got an email from Xbox Live telling me my account had been suspended. I was heading out of town for the holiday but did try to call before I left and got a message that the wait time was greater than 20 minutes so I hung up. I got back in early December and called them. The first guy I got actually accused me of trying to cheat microsoft and there was nothing he could do about reinstating my account. Called back got a supervisor and after about 90 minutes on the phone managed to convince them that it was their error not mine(for some reason the system would not attempt to bill the new card, just the old one over and over) anyway after 2 weeks of needing to go to one department and then another, it was finally taken care of and to Lives credit I was issued a 2 month free subscription card. BUT that old card info is still there and I'm told it can't be deleted but should fall off when the card would have expired in 2009.

while I agree sometimes a simple answer is sufficient, his post was in his own way intended to highlight the fact that you were, in fact, acting quite paranoid about such a large company, and that it is unfounded.

Trust me, I don't mind any level of hating on EA, but you were in fact hating on them, and accusing them, although rather indirectly.

Just by stating your distrust for your CC details in regards to how MS or EA would handle them is in itself an attack on that companies crediibility and responsibility. I'm just surprised in this day that that level of distrust could be harbored towards such a large and public company. Were there anythning underhanded being done with peoples personal details, especially that of a credit card, it would almost certainly spell doom for that company and it's shareholders.

While corruption exists, it is typically not handled in such a manner on the industrial side. Some guy dumpster diving for your reciepts and CC statements is a MUCH larger risk than EA.

If you want to feel safer, get a firewall and a paper shredder, that will go miles farther than removing your CC from your Live account.

If you're going to imply that a company is unscrupulous, you had better back it up.

I wonder why a person would even ask a question such as this here. If a person is concerned about the privacy of their data, they need to read (and understand) a company's privacy policy.

More on topic: how do you delete a credit card account on Xbox Live?

I have one that expired. It was easy to add a new one to add some MS points. However, now whenever I purchase something, it defaults to the first expired card and I have to select other payment option to select the correct account. There are no button options (that I've seen) for "account options" or "delete account", etc.

Just curious. I can call MS directly sometime in the future of course. Just wondering if anyone here knew.

You can't. Not from the dashboard on the 360, not from your PC logged into the service and the folks that answer the phone for xbox live support cant delete it either.

Manage it on the website. I've removed two credit card accounts over the years.

I tired removing mine, but couldn't do it online. my live account is paid up for almost 24 months, and I wanted to remove it so that my son can't just add MS points.

I was able to see the expired card online. It said it was "about to expire". Anyway, I was able to transfer my account from it to the new card (which was already there and listed too) by selecting it as "another payment method". Once the transfer was complete, the old card wasn't listed anymore.

Thanks.

Same here. I was able to remove an old card through Microsoft's Billing and Account Management website.

As long as you have two different credit cards, you can manage an erase one of them through xbox.com

But you have to have at least one credit card registered, that's the one I believe you have to call and have them erase it for you.

It's easier than that. Live will probably try to automatically re-up your account using that number when the year expires, but when it doesn't work, you'll have to enter the new number anyway. Happened when I switched banks and used a different card.

He is, but is has to do with EA's rape of the land when it comes to lack of innovation with their premier titles.

Somehow that translates to theft and credit card fraud.
