I didnt have both of them to compare side by side but as i was using full rotel setup with the 1570 driving a few units of 1582 i felt its very good on its own and certain is something i can live with if you can get a good deal out of them. I did felt that the Rotel seem to excel in musical resolution as compared to 8801 but i certainly can live with the 8801 stepping from the 1570. IIRC, Rotel has a more analytical sound vs Marantz with its more warm and forgiving sound (Pure Direct). Do note i also took the opportunity and changed the power amp to Parasound A21s simply because of XLR plus external heat sink as compared to the 1582 (they tend to overheat on my hifi shelf during certain time of the year but the Parasound glides through each day without much complaint) so its not really just a processor swap in my case.
I wont mind taking the Rotel RSPs again if Rotel decided to make right of their functions (such as wide array of configurable trigger, a mic for user customisable PEQ with on screen diagram, display on/dim/off, proper power button lighting (on for blue amber for standby), A better remote control, customisable display, 3 XLR inputs and XLR ouputs) hope that said much bout what i think of Rotel.
